Candy molds for favors...

Mrs. Del Grosso, on March 24, 2013 at 12:21 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 13

So I bought the Wilton Candy Melts yesterday since they were on sale at Michaels. FH keeps telling me how he hates the way they taste, the time I've had them I didn't think they taste bad. I'm tired of hearing him complain. Does anyone know any other candy melt chocolate/white chocolate I can use to make these lollipop molds?! Fresh chocolate would be wonderful!!

Almond bark works, I have just bought big blocks of chocolate and used those too. I had a 5lb block of amish chocolate once that tasted great, I chopped it into pieces and melted it for the molds.

Im sorry I dont have another sggestion because I am using the Wilton candy Melts. I think they taste great! You know you can always add more flavoring to them? You can do 2 tsp. hazlenut extract, almond extract, orange extract, or other flavoring that compliments vanilla. It will give them a different taste. They also come in chocolate too. The only other brand I am familiar with is Godiva and the dipping choocolate. The Godiva is much more expensive, so depending on how many you are doing this might not be a good choice. http://www.godiva.com/milk-melting-chocolate/73209,default,pd.html?cm_ven=GOOGLE&cm_cat=PLA&cm_pla=Godiva&cm_ite=D12CSE&gclid=CO_suLHllbYCFdGd4AodBlwAAQ

But in the grocery store they usually have melting chocolate near the strawberries and bananas, check that out too, it is basically the same thing.

Oh and also- if you do a flavoring, like hazlenut extract for example, you can crush up toasted hazlenuts and add them to the candy! MMMM! Delicious!

I am doing oreos covered in candy melts, they will be in one of our colors and we will use the heart shape mold. That it a great combination too, and easier than lollies.

We used this mild but with lime green- http://stowedstuff.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Chocolate-Covered-Oreos.jpg

Found out I can use regular Hershey bars! So we're changing it to all chocolate.

Glad you found a substitute! If you run into any more problems, I agree with MissB about using almond bark. I use that instead of candy melts when I make cake balls and they taste amazing!

How about the stuff you can dip strawberries in? That tastes pretty good? Grocery stores should have it on sale every now and then.

I asked somebody about that yesterday and they said the way it's made you can't use it for that, it hardens much quicker than the melting chocolate. The consistency is different.

You can buy it now, just don't freeze or refigerate it. That makes it turn white.

Most grocery stores carry "Candi Quik", which is a lot like Almond Bark. The Candi Quik comes in white and chocolate and tastes great....I use it to make a LOT of candies at the Holidays.
