Candy bar?

Brittany, on February 15, 2018 at 9:20 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15
I love the idea of a candy bar as favors and gives the guests something sweet to eat other than cake. Has anyone done this? Did you guests enjoy it? Has anyone been to a wedding with a candy bar?

Just went to a wedding with a candy bar. I loved it. Bride said it was a little expensive, but other guest loved that you could pick what you wanted.

You wouldn't think that candy is expensive but it adds up quickly when buying in bulk

Right, my thinking is we were going to to a dessert table and favors but I feel like doing this would save us money to kind of combine the 2. We have a guest list of 50 max. So I guess il research prices to get an idea if it would really save us money.
    Thanks!

The only thing I will add is this is great when the candy is good, but a lot of people buy color-coordinated candy from Oriental Trading, etc. and it looks pretty but it tastes awful. Get good &/or local candy and I would definitely take some!

Get pricing on mini versions of desserts with a guest list of 50 you should be able to something where your guests go "HOLY SWEETS!!!" LOL. Cookies & various sweet breads you can easily do from a costco/sams/grocery store (they will be cheaper than a baker). You could add candy to the dessert table just to add variety as well.

My future SIL works for a candy store in SF and she is helping us with our candy bar. We are keeping it down to 10 flavors that are our favorites! Our guests are at about 45, so it shouldn’t be too much. Got my jars from Hobby Lobby for $50, they were having a glass sale.

I've been to several weddings and baby showers with candy bars. I love them! There are so many creative ways to do them. I'd stick with name brand candy to ensure you are getting quality candy.

I have been to one and it was cute but there was A LOT of candy left over at the end of the night. Just be prepared to eat your weight in gummy bears if tort guests don’t take a lot lol

We are also thinking about doing this and having it be our “favors” to have the guests fill they’re own baggies with whatever they’d like! It is actually an option with our catering company and included in our package if we choose to have it. As others have said, I think it’s a super cute idea but definetely recommend using name brand candy and not knock off junk just to match colors Smiley smile

I've seen this in addition to cake but i think it can work well. However, i dislike candy bars thats just round candy balls or gum. Venues told me that see that stuff mostly go into the trash. Mini pies, cakes, cupcakes, mousse shooters, cookies, brownies, chocolate covered strawberries/apples, rice krispy treats are all desserts i enjoy at candy bars. My FSIL did one for my baby shower and it was a hit. Have treat bags so people can take them home.

We had a candy bar and bought the majority of our candy on Amazon. We did find some good deals on Oriental Trading for name brand candy (not the generic stuff). Since we had a Christmas wedding, we chose to do red, white, and red/white candy. Here's a guest's pic of what it looked like, as well as pics of the bags we used (found on Etsy).

Personally I’m not that into candy so I would prefer a dessert bar. I’ve seen people do that and place takeout boxes out for favors.
