Candy Bar.. to have or not to have?

Vanessa, on October 24, 2014 at 11:13 AM Posted in Planning 0 20

So here's the question - Should we or shouldn't we have a candy bar at our wedding reception? We had a candy bar at our engagement party (see photo) and it just seemed like a waste of money! No one really ate much of the candy (so we stored it all in our deep freezer) but they did enjoy the fruit and chocolate fountain. I'm not sure if we should even waste time with it at the wedding. Are you having a candy bar?

We had one but we did brand name candy that people would actually want to eat rather than bulk colored candy. We did have some left over but I think a lot of people enjoyed it. Also ours served as our favors.

However if you already did it for your engagement party you might want to mix it up! Maybe a dessert bar, cookie bar or popcorn bar?

Since you already had one at your Engagement Party I would pass for the Reception.

We are doing one, and we are getting little paper bags and stamping them with our names/wedding date so guests can fill up a bag to take it home with them (we are doing this as our favour).

But I agree with others who have said since you have already done it for your engagement party and it wasn't a hit there then I would skip it. If you wanted to do some type of "bar" you could do a mashed potato bar (I freaking love those) or a popcorn bar or something. But those don't do well as a favour (although I would probably be stoked about taking home a bag of mashed potatoes... but I'm weird).

Wouldn't a lot of the same people be invited to the wedding as engagement party...I think that would have you a good indication. If it didn't get used much there, then maybe not the best to redo it at the wedding?

We had one, and it was a HUGE hit. Nothing was left over other than the red vines, which are not my favorite either, so I can't fault people for not wanting to eat those things Smiley winking

I wish I had pictures of ours. It was super amazing. We got all of our glassware at homegoods or the dollar store or amazon. Spent about $75 on all of that and our bags. And then about $150 on all the candy. It was WELL worth it. That and our photo booth were our favors. Both were huge hits, let me tell you Smiley smile

Great point Jillian! Most of the people at the wedding would have attended the engagement party so that would definitely be a good indicator that the candy bar wont be missed.

Thanks Staci! I like the idea of a desert bar! but with our huge cake, what types of dessert would you suggest?

    Staci those are great ideas!

I'm not sure why I'm having so many brain farts while planning my own wedding! Hec, I plan holiday parties etc for my job and it seems so effortless but I guess when it's your own personal function you look at things differently. lol!

I wanted it but the cost was just too much, then the set up and hassle. I love candy but not that much!

We are having one but it is because we are having some younger guests. I agree with the other ladies if you already did one at your engagement party I would skip it and maybe do a dessert table instead.

I agree, pass on it since you already did it at your engagement party (especially since it wasn't a huge success).

They aren't my style though, too much of a fad.

@Stacy: We are doing the same thing. I would rather have good quality candy than candy that just matches our decor. We have a lot of sweets eaters in my family too, so I think it will go over well if we make good selections.

We are doing a candy bar at ours with candy that many people eat so hopefully will not be a waste. Do you still have the candy? If not same crowd or additions to your engagement crowd do it to get ride of candy. Maybe there will be kids at the wedding as well. Good luck.

We are having a dessert/chocolate candy bar. Our family and friends love desserts and chocolate, so we know it will very well.

We are having one, but we are getting bulk candy from Sam's. I could care less if my candy matches my colors, I care more about people enjoying it.

We didn't do one and I don't think anyone missed it. We had take-away boxes for our cake so that people could take a slice home if they were too full from dinner or wanted a second piece!

With the size of our cake, I just didn't see the need or purpose at the reception; however, I did have one at my bridal shower.

If you and your groom have a sweet tooth, but want something different to serve your wedding guests, then we suggest you skip the chocolates and candy and go for caramel treats instead. http://goo.gl/u3JZza
