Candles staying lit for Outdoor Reception

merebear 10.5.19, on June 3, 2018 at 12:27 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4

We are having our reception on the beach in what the resort calls a "Shore house venue". I can attach a venue pic and an inspo pic so you have an idea. The space is covered and there are string lights and a fireplace, but we would like to add to the ambiance by having candles apart of centerpieces. The venue does allow real candles - which is one of the first things we asked because my FH and I aren't really sold on the look and idea of flameless candles.

Anyone have experience or suggestions with outdoor receptions, wind, and candles? I would love to see your centerpiece pics!

As long as the wick is well-below the top of the glass, they should be fine and stay lit. (Depending on the size of the candles you'll use, be sure to consider how long their "burn time" is -- some (likely cheaper options) might burn down in less time than you'll want them lit.)

Yup! Just have them nice and low and it will be fine. Also if you have a coordinator, make sure you supply them with a bunch of those long lighters.

My florist advised against it. She said they’re often hard to keep lit, even if it’s very low in the case as MOB So Cal recommends. It depends how much wind your place gets; mine could get quite windy. I ended up having dinner indoors anyway so we could have done real, but the price difference clinched it for me (mine were coming from the event designer so we could use her led ones for less than her buying new candles plus use of glass cylinders). Perhaps consider lanterns? In the end, the LEDs weren’t bad at all. I don’t think anyone even paid attention. In case you have to go that route.
