Candles for outdoor daytime decor?

Brittany, on September 7, 2020 at 11:27 AM Posted in Planning 0 12
Hi everyone!

We recently changed out event from indoor nighttime to outdoor daytime in less than 3 weeks. I have over 200 candles that I purchased on Facebook marketplace. My original wedding was all candles and flowers.
I could re-sell, but then I am buying all new decor last minute.
Is candles outdoor In daytime a waste? Searching Pinterest I find some pretty photos, but who knows if they’ll even stay lit.

I don’t think they will be a waste, I think they still can be pretty decorations. Pinterest has the best ideas!

Based on the conversations I’ve had with floral designers, the biggest problem with candles is the flame isn’t well seen during the day and that the breeze doesn’t keep them lit. I hate to call it a waste but it maybe you can repurpose them. Candles do add a beautiful touch but it’s difficult during the day.

They will definitely be difficult to see during the day. What time is your wedding over? Maybe you could have them lit at dusk.

I believe candles outdoors would be a waste. They won't stay lit with a slight breeze. I wanted to have a unity candle but our ceremony will be outdoors and the officiant said that's a bad idea with any kind of wind. Juat a thought.

Is your reception planned to go into the evening? If so, maybe you can light the candles in the evening, and use them as decoration during the day? I don't think they'd be a waste, candles can look beautiful as decoration!

You know I had candles as a centerpiece and I actually didn’t light them so if you have them it’s not like you have to light them

Anytime you use candles, you need to have a much taller vase to keep the flame contained. A breeze should not affect that. They won't have the same dramatic effect but still pretty.

Our original wedding day was scheduled for the day time; 11:00am ceremony, 12:30pm reception. We were going to have candles lining the aisle in large glass votives with color beads to match our theme and at the same at alter. The venue had it set up like this at one of the open houses we went to during the day and it looked beautiful! So no, I don't think it's a waste. We are keeping the look for our new wedding date; however, the ceremony starts 6:00pm now.

That is what i was thinking! Even if we lit them at dusk, it could be really pretty (if they don't blow out)

This is what I was going to say! I love the look and feel of candles even if they aren't lit!

Candles used during the day obviously don’t have the same visual impact. But they can still be used. However, they are often hard to keep lit. Typically the glass vase has to be much taller than the flame, so that the wind blowing by doesn’t easily blow out the candle.
