If you are DIY, always buy glass containers at Dollar Tree or Walmart to avoid costly shipping fees and breakage.
Double check with your florist or rental company on prices as they may be cheaper and you don't have to find a home for them afterwards.

As for candles themselves, make sure they are unscented around food and follow the picture where the flame is entirely enclosed by glass unlike so many on Pinterest or Google Images.
You can get them inexpensively at https://www.thecandledepot.com/floating-candles-c-1.html and https://www.candles4less.com/rounds-floating-candles_2

save-on-crafts.com 3 sizes cylinder vases $12 for one set, or $120 for 12 sets of 3 or 36 total.
look also at richland and other varied size sets, some round, some shaped.
Floating candles, they have LED ones and regular burning.

Or for something different, you can order a case of 12 of 3 or 4 sizes of these Brandy snifters.
They also sell in 6 and a dozen per case other multi size things of clear glass, from glass balls in glasses ,to something friends did a few years back, glass beer mugs in 3 sizes. I did not know they made 22ounce , 12, 15, and 18 having been my limit. If you are going for elegance, you want real vases. But for casual, or fun, candles float in water in any nice glass, as do Floating LED candles. https://www.webstaurantstore.com/acopa-20-oz-beer-mug-case/5536220.html

Start with $35 for a dozen 20 oz, and $50 for 12 and 16 ounce, $90-100 price range for those 3. They have some larger and smaller. Have fun with it and use the glasses later.

Michaels for the candles! If you can hold out a few more months until holiday sales, I would. I bought all of mine last year around Christmas and there was a coupon for 40% off your entire purchase.

I'm doing the same thing, I almost bought the jars from Walmart for $125. I just happened to swing by the dollar tree today and they had the container and I got the white and gold candles from Hobby Lobby, they were on sale for 3.99 when I got them yesterday lol.

I bought 48 glass vases for $48 at dollar tree. And enough of floating candles online.
