cancelling photographer

Baranpartyof2, on August 6, 2016 at 3:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

We have decided to change photographers. We did sign a contract with the original and paid $250 for the retainer. In the contract is says nothing about what happens if the contract is broken so I am unsure as how to word this email..what do you guys think?:

Thank you for the work that you have given us to date. It is with much thought and consideration that we have made the decision that we’re going in another direction for our photographs for our wedding date of 11/14/16. We are thus canceling our contract. After reviewing the contract, I do not see any stipulations as to what happens when a contract is canceled. Can you please advise as well as send written confirmation of this cancellation.

Don't expect to get the retainer back unless there was a big reason why you decided to go with another photographer.

I cancelled my photographer also but at the same time it was in enough time that I received my deposit back. I was so excited for that

Don't say they 'gave' you the work. 'The work you have completed to date' will suffice.

I would also send it certified..signature required, that way if they don't send you written confirmation you have proof they received it

Nope, you don't get that back. I hope you were more careful selecting the replacement, this is happening too often lately Smiley sad

Jay: She wasn't expecting it back....and she shouldn't get a lecture about "being more careful"...shit happens and everyone has the right to change their mind.

She said she wasn't sure what happens with nullification of the contract, I assumed one of the queries was what happens to the retainer.
