Cancellation policy

Hi everyone!

I was supposed to have my wedding this weekend, May 2nd in Tennessee. My fiancé is in the Air Force, stationed in Florida. The Air Force issued a travel ban for all military personnel until June 30th. We have rescheduled for September 26th due to this travel ban. All of our vendors have been very understanding and able to reschedule EXCEPT our photographer. She was unable to reschedule that date and time. We have already paid a $1500 deposit and she is saying that we will have to sign a cancellation contract and pay an additional $1500. Has anyone been through anything similar? Any suggestions for what I should do?

That’s outrageous! I can understand not giving you your deposit back but paying an additional $1500 to cancel? Unbelievable! I’m so sorry this happened to you. Maybe have an attorney read over the contract?

That's wrong! I am in the same boat. My venue is trying to make me pay $2500 to change my June 20th date to June 20, 2021. If the initial contract you signed does not state that you need to pay a transfer fee or an additional deposit, then you do not have to pay. Asking for money for rescheduling your wedding is a violation of the existing contract. It's a breach of contract. What these venues and vendors are doing is wrong! And so many couples are going through this and do not know their rights. Know your rights! Also, if your contract says "act of God" that's a "force majeure." We cannot let these vendors get away with this. They are taking advantage of the situation and preying on desperate emotional brides/couples.

Read your original contract that you signed. If it states there is a $1500 cancellation fee then there isn't much you can do. If it does not state that do not sign anything saying you must pay them $1500 do cancel.

That's weird. I think forfeiting the deposit you have already made is normal, but to pay more money to cancel... that seems off. I would definitely review your contract.

What was the total cost of your photography package?
