Canceling my hair and make up contract

Tiffany, on March 12, 2023 at 8:38 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 4
Hello,

I signed a contract with a company to get my hair and make up done for my wedding. I thought at the time I would have enough money for those services. But after looking at my budget, I no longer am able to afford those services. I paid a deposit fee of 100.00 dollars. But in the contract it says if I cancel the services I will have to pay the full amount. Any suggestions? Thank uou

Unfortunately, since it's in the contract and you signed it, I don't think there's much you can do, except maybe reach out to the company to explain the situation and see if they will either lower the cost, or let you break the contract with only losing your deposit. Will they let you out of the contract if someone else books their services for the same date? If so, you can try to "sell" your contract to someone else looking for hair/makeup services for your same date.

Try to negotiate something friendly with them. You might first tell them that you realized you cannot afford this service. You might have an amount you could still pay. That would help in a bargaining process. For example if it was $800 and you can only afford $200.

But if you cannot pay at this time, they would have to try to collect from you and that would be a hassle for them. Some places may try to collect anyhow, and they could affect your credit score. It still is the same problem. They don't particularly get their money, or, at least, not very soon.

You can try to explain your situation but at the end of the day you signed a contract that clearly states you still are required to pay for the services even if you cancel.

If your wedding date listed is correct, it looks like it's less than 2 weeks away. I don't think they'll be anything you can do at this point to avoid paying the contract. You can certainly call them and try to discuss a possible payment plan, but I wouldn't expect them to let you out of it at this point.
