Cancel my wedding?

Jessica, on December 8, 2020 at 9:36 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12
Hi everyone!
I’m suppose to be getting married 12/18/2020. I am so stuck on if I should keep that date or move it due to COVID. I live in Pennsylvania and it looks like the numbers are continuously rising and the governor is recommending everyone to stay home. Please help!

What is your guest count? I think that if it isn't a huge number then you may be able to go forward with it, but if its like 100 people I honestly would postpone it. Have you talked to your venue to see what they recommend?

It's completely your decision, we cannot tell you what to do.
Many brides are postponing the big wedding and carrying on with the civil wedding.

I think this would depend largely on what kind of wedding you intend to have and how many guests you want to attend. Right now, Pennsylvania has a 10% occupancy maximum. Meaning, if your venue can hold 100 people, then you can only have 10 people present at your wedding (this includes bride and groom, Officiant, photographer, etc.). Venues are also required to enforce mask mandates, so your guests will all need to wear a mask. I believe the exception to that rule is the bride and groom, who may remove their masks during the ceremony.

I think it depends on what you and your fiance want. Is getting married on that specific date more important to you than a larger wedding? If so, you could either do a small ceremony on your current date and postpone the larger reception until later, or you could downsize your guest list and continue on your plans for your current date. Otherwise, are your vendors and venue willing to let you postpone without penalty? If so, then I recommend talking with your fiance and doing what you both feel is best. Postponing may be the right answer for some people, and continuing as planned may be the right answer for others. If you are OK with the restrictions in place and feel that you can safely have your wedding while following all restrictions, go for it! Otherwise, I would consider postponing.

We are allowed to have 150 guests, but we only have 100 guests RSVP that they are coming. Our venue is allowing us to reschedule if we would like to but I’m so stuck on a decision

For that many guests I personally would postpone, unless you think that some of them may not show up. I'm only saying that because I know with how the numbers are currently, I wouldn't dare be at an event with 100people.

But I get why you're stuck, you are sooooooo close Smiley sad

I would check with your venue again. Your governor has just released new guidelines stating only 10% occupancy. So, unless your venue is able to accommodate 1000 people, 100 guests should not be permitted.

Oh dear!!!! For me... this is just me... I would get married (with my wedding party, siblings, parents if possible) and do a ceremony and reception when it safer. Pray hard! I pray that your decision gives you and your fiancé peace. 🧡🙏🏾🧡

All my local hospitals are over capacity and running out of covid tests; I would without a doubt cancel or reduce to under 15 guests... best wishes!

If your venue is letting you postpone, I would do so.

    I'm sorry.

Hi Jessica!! I'd call your venue and check your state and county's updated restrictions and local ordinances!

I'm seeing the same thing as Chrysta on the PA.gov Department of Health website, that indoor gatherings are limited to 10% of maximum occupancy (so if their max occupancy is 2,000 you can have 200 guests) and outdoor gatherings are limited to 15% of maximum occupancy:
