Cancel Engagement Photographer

Caryn, on August 31, 2017 at 2:19 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

So I am having an out-of-state wedding and originally thought I would book engagement pics with a local photographer and then book a different wedding photographer. Well since I booked the local engagement photographer, I found my PERFECT wedding photographer and regret not getting engagement pics done with her. Our engagement pics are scheduled in one month (9/30), I signed a contract with the local one, but nowhere in there does it state anything about canceling and I didn't put a deposit down.

Is there any reason I couldn't cancel with her and not have to pay anything? Other than living with my guilty conscience of course...

Sounds like you need to give them a call. I don't think anyone here can answer that.

I would just let them know ASAP. If there is no deposit required or cancellation clause in the contract (weird) I would think you shouldn't be held responsible for any fees.

The whole contract is mostly about covering herself in case of weather, equipment malfunction, things outside her control, etc. Then there is one sentence that says I have chosen to pay the full amount at the event.

I think you can try to cancel it.

We planned our wedding from out of state and did engagement pictures with a different photographer that was local to us. The photographer we booked for our wedding included engagement pictures, but since we were already doing engagement pics with a different photographer, our wedding photographer altered our package to instead have an anniversary shoot. If your wedding photographer is offering an engagement shoot as part of your package and your original engagement pic photographer won't let you cancel, you can negotiate with the wedding photographer to take the engagement shoot out of the package and decrease the cost or see if she'll give you a print credit or an anniversary shoot in place of the engagement shoot. Just a thought in case cancelling with your e-pic photographer isn't going to be possible.

I'd suggest writing "Paging Photographers" in your title. It seems like a poorly written contract if there is no contingency about a cancellation. It also seems pretty rough to cancel a month out
