Can you do both unity candle and unity sand?

arleen, on April 10, 2015 at 4:04 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

Its a second time around marriage needless to say we want to include my daughters in the ceremony so i was thinking of doing the sand for our family and a unity candle just for us (bride and groom) is this weird should i just do the sand?

You can do both, one, or neither. I have personally never seen two unity "events" at a wedding but I am sure it can be done.

I didn't do any. I didn't see the point and wanted a short and sweet ceremony (and not have to dust a candle or bottle of sand for the rest of my life). To each their own Smiley smile

Amy said it perfect. Do want you want! & don't listen to others opinions about doing both. It will work fine, especially since you're having such an intimate wedding

Yes. We are doing both. I wanted the standard unity candle and FH wanted a sand unity since we were engaged near a beach. We picked up sand and shells from that beach and plan to use it at the wedding.

You can do both, and I totally see why you would, but keep an eye on how long all of these parts of the ceremony take. If the rest of your ceremony is short, sure, but guests don't like to sit through long ceremonies.

I just saw that you're having a really small wedding. It's probably totally fine then.

I usually have the B&G pour their sand first, providing a foundation for the kids who pour their sand on top.

ButterflyFlinder, make sure the beach sand is really dry or it will clump instead of pour.

@nancyt - Good point. we picked sand farthest away from the water and we have 6 months for it to dry out. Thanks for advice.
