Can you do a Unity Candle after your reception or honeymoon?

Tori, on February 18, 2020 at 2:59 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 5

The venue my FH and I are using doesn't allow open flames at all which means I can't do a unity candle at the ceremony nor reception since we are doing everything at one location. Has any done or know someone who did a unity candle after the reception at another location or even after their honeymoon? Or should I skip the whole idea? I get the ceremony itself represents unity but I would like something that we can use every years on our anniversary. Hope you can help!

I don't see anything wrong with lighting a unity candle separate from the wedding if that's really what you want to do. Have you considered unity ceremonies other than the candle? Like a sand ceremony, knot tying ceremony, wine ceremony, unity glass ceremony?

    Hey Amber!

I have but we are having a country/rustic themed wedding so I didn't really like the sand. My parents did a candle so i'm really drawn to that.

There’s no rules on how you can do your unity ceremony, if you want to do it at home, go for it!

Have you asked your venue about the unity candle? My venue says no open flames, but they make an exception for a unity candle. Though they require you to hide a fire extinguisher under the table lol
