Can someone explain to me what a "Request for Proposal" is?

Christina, on September 18, 2017 at 11:16 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

I can't seem to find any forums discussing RFP's. Anyone have any examples from when they were married? What was your experiencing submitting one? and What they heck are they in the first place lol Thanks!

Can you give more context? Who asked for one?

I haven't seen this terminology in wedding planning, but I would assume that it is essentially just asking a vendor to put together a quote for you?

I'm a former Contracts specialist. An RFP is what you give a vendor that outlines your requirements, and they respond to it with a proposal - i.e., A quote. Normally, in the wedding market they'd call it a request for quote and a quote. An RFP is usually for services, and a larger purchase.

In any event, they're just asking you to write out the scope of work you want them to do - i.e., Your list of requirements, in sufficient detail that they can give you an accurate cost estimate back.

Maybe the person asking came from a procurement background, and is just defaulting to terminology they know.
