Can someone explain the difference between Zola and a Honeyfund?

A. L., on August 7, 2016 at 6:53 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

Is Zola okay if you only register for tangible gifts? Or should couples avoid it all together?

If you want tangible gifts, why not have a normal registry? You can register at lots of different places, and then have a link on your wedding website tying everything together.

I've heard Zola is overpriced compared to brick and mortar stores like bed bath and beyond.

From what I have heard, items on Zola tend to be overpriced.

Zola isn't as mainstream. People who aren't married or have been married for a while probably have never heard of it and are more likely to migrate towards safer places, like BBB.

I believe Zola also charges a fee if you want to link to other stores - just use the real stores' registries.

Thanks. I think we'll just avoid it.

A friend of mine registered on Zola for people to "donate" to the wedding dress, the catering, decorations, flowers, and other aspects of the wedding. I didn't even know you could register for tangible gifts on it, so I'd definitely just go with the brick and mortar store.

If you're just registering for tangible gifts, I don't see a problem with it, but why not do an Amazon registry that allows you to pick items sold in multiple stores that are traditional registry stores? Same difference, but people know and trust Amazon. And Amazon doesn't charge extra.

I registered with zola and I only put tangible items on there. There is no fee for outside gifts as long as you choose to direct the guests to the outside store (via link, super easy). There is the option to collect the cash for the gift and order it for yourself, that's when they charge the fee and it's honestly dumb. We have about 60% gifts from outside sites on ours. We like the ability to make it a group gift as well.

Zola has been great for us and honestly the website design is really nice. It does allow you to register for nicer, more upscale things, which is great for some.

Our registry is on Zola with tangible items only. Like Kelsey Ann said, there's no fee as long as you link straight to whatever store the gift is on. We were originally only on Amazon and then I moved everything to Zola for the universal registry feature, not realizing Amazon had the same option. Oops.

I have a Zola. I like it. Some stuff is expensive but a lot of it is actually really fair prices and really unique. I have a lot of kitchen items and some other housewares. I also have a William Sonoma and west elm so my guests have options.

Amazon would be better. Do a regular registry too, for older guests who don't shop online.

I'm using Zola as my exclusive registry and I love it. It's super easy, the design is beautiful, and they have THE BEST gifts to choose from! Yeah, Amazon is easy too, but it's...well, it's Amazon. Zola feels very cool and personal, which is how I want my wedding to be.

Since you specifically asked about Honeyfund, I will mention that they have tricky fees. I registered there for my honeymoon but canceled after I realized that they charge you AND your guest. It's like a 7% fee! If you are doing a honeymoon registry, I think Zola is the cheapest in terms of fees.

Agree that having a second, non-online registry can be helpful too, if you have a lot of older guests coming.

Just my 2 cents - hope whatever you do works for you guys!
