Can my hair be too long???

CaboBride2018, on April 13, 2018 at 12:31 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 16

I've been growing my hair out for awhile and it's now down to my waist. My hair is naturally straight and mostly all the same length (a few very long layers). Do you think that is too long for a sculpted twist updo (pics below)? Is that even possible?

I'm having a DW and won't be able to do a hair trial. I've never really had long hair before, so I don't know how hard it will be to achieve the look I want. I really don't know much about hair and don't have a regular stylish I can ask for advice.

I have hair to my butt and I’m avoiding updos honestly. I feel as if my hair is too heavy and I would be worrying about it falling down the whole time.

My hair's the same length and texture as yours and my hairstylist told me when dealing with updos, you can never have too much hair. The longer your hair, the more they have to work with and the fuller your updo is. I had my hair trial (very similar to photo #2) and it looked great.

Yes, your hair can be too long, mine was when I got married. I'd suggest having a trial with someone local

I was growing my hair too - so I could have enough for an updo - as i usually keep it short and to just above my shoulders. It's also curly and very thick. Grew it for 3 years. Had to get a foot cut off 2 weeks ago because my stylist said there was just way too much and it would not stay up and it would be too heavy.

This is the end result with the updo from the trial:

Still, a lot of hair - and so many bobby pins...and hair spray.

I think it depends on how thick/heavy your hair is. I have really long hair, very thick and curly and it's almost to my waist. When I leave it up for too long I get headaches because it is SO heavy. I'd cut it but I'm leaving the length for the wedding because I want to wear it mostly down. So weight is something to consider. Maybe do a half & half? What does the back of your dress look like?

My hair is straight, to my mid back, and fairly in between when it comes to thickness. I get it done every 6 months and my hairdresser cuts off maybe an inch each time. It works fine with an updo

You should find someone local that will do a trial and then go out on a fun date lol. That's the only way to know. If one person can do it there's a good chance another can.

If you can, schedule a trial with someone close to you. Even if they won't be the one to style your hair for the wedding you can see how it works and how it holds up. Take lots of pictures for the stylist for your wedding!

Thanks for the advice on scheduling a trial locally. I had that idea, but was trying to save money by skipping it. I'm definitely re-considering after all of your comments. After growing my hair out, I feel a lot of pressure to get the perfect updo for the wedding!

I would have your demo so that your H&MU artist can instruct you on what to do. They might have you cut some, or it might not even be full enough for a hefty bun like that. My hair is down to my lower back, but when it's in a bun it's barely the size of a baseball haha.

Definitely talk to your stylist, I thought the same thing of the hair do I'm looking at and when I met with my stylist, she suggested taking off at least two inches so it wouldn't be too heavy.

I have also been trying to let my hair grow. I have really fine hair so I feel if it is longer it will help the updo to be fuller. For prom years ago, I had to get extensions since I didn't have enough hair to create a decent updo. I would think if you have the right hair stylist, they should be able to make it work.

Have you thought about doing a trial anyways so you know what you want when you get to your destination? I am also having a DW but my hairstylist did a trial on me so that I know what I want and how it will look!!!

Thickness definitely contributes to the answer to this. My hair is super thick so if it was down to my waist then no, this would not be possible, it’d look weird and be really heavy.

To save money, try a beauty school. They are supervised by teachers. This was you can see if it works and not spend a ton of money Smiley heart
