Can i tell my florist I'm getting some wholesale flowers too?

Jamie, on July 10, 2020 at 2:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

I'm going to get a bunch of stems and garlands wholesale for decor since it's so much cheaper and doable to do yourself. However, I definitely want to have some pieces done by the florist. Can I be honest about this? I feel like if I can tell my florist this, they may be able to match my vision even better.

No clue honestly . i was planning on going a similar route but eventually chose to just have my florist do it all. im having micro wedding with not that many decor pieces though so i know it makes a bit of a difference. i would ask her. maybe something along the lines of i have this last minute decor idea that i thought would be a nice project for me and my mom in addition to the pieces you will be designing...

I know there are florists that will definitely have issues only because they get concerned about their work being confused with someone else’s. I’d totally check with your florist because the last thing you’d want is for them to realize you have a lot of DIY floral the day of and then decide that they are unhappy with that and refuse to give you your floral. That way you can at least resolve any problems before an even bigger problem may arise.

Definitely be honest with them. They're probably getting their products from the same vendor though. Also many businesses put a statement in contracts that they be the only vendor of that product/service at your wedding.

Have you negotiated with them the price difference of adding in the additional greenery vs you doing it yourself?

I would read the contract and see if there is anything in there about that. I think it will really depend on the florist. I would personally want to be honest with the florist regardless.

Our florist was totally fine with this. He is doing the bouquets, boutennaires, and corsages (most photographed pictures) and we're using Fifty Flowers and putting together aisle flowers (which will be repurposed as centerpieces) and a few other arrangements around the venue. We saved $1,000 this way.

I too am using fiftyflowers. I wish I found a florist as laid back as yours but no such luck. I reached out to a few florists because I just wanted greenery wrapped around the chandeliers which I can’t do on my own and both were like almost offended I even asked when I mentioned I was doing fiftyflowers. So I’m having my decore company use faux for the wrapping instead. Your florist seems like theyre a definite keeper!

I told my florist I just needed the bouquets and they had no issue with it since I'm doing all my floral decorations. I think it might be an issue if only if it was a high floral company

My florist is ok with it and even sells it by bushel too but she doesn't arrange that way.

    not all of them are.

I would check your contract. Our contract with our florist specified that we were not allowed to use any other flowers not provided by them

My florist was fine with it! I was super open about it on the phone and she even recommended her wholesale flower place for me! I think she may have felt bad as well because I had to move my wedding from NC to my backyard in Maryland haha

I would check your contract. If it doesn't say then I would speao with your florist about this. Most vendors ask for excluse privileges for whatever services they are providing.

Check your contract! Some will allow this and and some won’t. And maybe your florist will adjust her contract. It’s always worth asking.
