Can I still have a bachelorette party?

Monique, on August 18, 2012 at 5:06 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 11

As some ladies may know my fh and I decided to have a civil wedding at the courthouse and a party afterwards. My question is can I still have a bachelorette party? Now that we are doing this not sure what to do. Oh n my fh stated that we should wait until our year anniversary to do a vow renewal (the whole shabang). Which I guess makes since. It will also cut the neg comments fromsome. They defintely won't understand what the point is of us having a ceremony n reception on our old date of 52513. Another thing is now that we don't have groomsmen or ridesmaids who will throw the parties. I'm sure my fhs friends will do something but how bout my bachelorette party. Oh n can I still have a bridal shower? I need your help ladies....T.I.A :-)

Yes, why can't you? You're still getting married. Smiley smile

I don't see why not. Like Tabatha said you are still getting married.

If you have a sister or best friend just mention to her that you would still enjoy having a bridal shower and bachelorette party.

You can go out for a bachelorette party but you cannot throw your own bridal shower. This is an event where you will be "showered with gifts" and it is not polite to ask people for gifts yourself.

You are getting married so you are entitled to have a bachelorette party and you can even plan it out if you choose to...as for the bridal shower, IMO, if a loved one wants to throw it for you, then great. But any party where people are expected to give you gifts is not the type of party anyone should throw themselves. It comes off as narcassitic. As for the bachelorette party, go for it!

We are doing a small ceremony far away from home and aren't having a wedding party. I have a few friends that have already started talking about throwing me a bachelorette party. I felt weird about having a shower since so many people aren't invited to the ceremony, but several family members have told me that they will be sad if I don't have one because that would still give them a chance to celebrate with us. I agree with Tina though about not throwing one for yourself.

My mom decided she was going to throw me a shower when we had plans on having a wedding. Now that we r having a civil ceremony I wasn't sure if she should still do it...

Edit: when I said what about the bridal shower I was asking if I could still have one :-). Sorry I should have clarified it! Thanks ladies for all the advice.
