Can i put that i have a band on my invitation?

mkalkofen, on February 1, 2018 at 12:33 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

I know it sounds silly, but I want people to know we're having a band at the reception. Can I say that? How would I word it? Or should I just put it on the website and hope people see it and get excited?

The band is really cool. I'm super excited about it and I want other people to be too!

I would just put it on the website as maybe spread the word to close people to you and encourage them to tell others

Agree with the PP. Put this on your website and then just spread the word. We had an amazing big band at our wedding that we told people about beforehand.

The best place for this information would be on your website.

I think it depends on what is the general make-up of the guest list. If it’s mostly people who would definitely appreciate that sort of info, I’d add it to the invitations. But if you’re the one who is most excited and everyone else would give you an anemic “meh” and you’re HOPING that you can build excitement, I’d add it to the website and see if the band has a quality audio or video clip that can accompany their mention. Good luck! That sounds really fun. 😊

I agree with just the website, PP definitely has a good idea with finding a youtube clip to include on the website.

It would super rub me the wrong way on an invite.

I think you could get away with it on your website as long as it comes across as promoting the band, versus promoting your event (which would come across as obnoxious)

I don't think it's necessary to put it on the invitations, but it's totally up to you!

I would put the band information on your website, not on the invitation.

I think in the website and word of mouth would be best, but if you really want to add it to the invite I'd put "Reception with live music to follow" or something to that effect

Thanks, everybody. You confirmed my general feeling. The band has a Soundcloud page, so I'll put that on the website.

We are also having a live band, is there a reason you want people to know that you are having a band not a dj? I want to make sure I'm not forgetting something or not aware of something.

Why? Do you think more people will come if you have a band?

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who found this odd!! I've never seen a band promoted for a wedding. Maybe unpopular opinion but I wouldn't put it anywhere and just have it as a nice surprise/experience for when guests arrive.

I wouldn't say anything on the invitation or the website. You can absolutely spread by word of mouth but it would really come across as braggy in print, and one of those "ummm ok, that's great but why?" Sort of things.

My eldest had a popular local band play at her wedding, the kids know a few of the members quite well. They let people know in conversation that they were playing but didn't print anything. Those who knew of the band were excited to hear but those who didn't know them prior wouldn't have cared before hand. They simply enjoyed them at the reception.

Originally I was going to say if your invitations are informal you could add "dinner, dancing, and live music to follow" at the bottom instead of "dinner and dancing to follow" but looking at it I still don't like it. I know this isn't the intention, but since it's not something that typically belongs on an invitation, it comes off as kind of braggy, as if this is a selling point of a wedding as opposed to lesser, DJ-having events.

The website is the perfect place to put this information, however!

On a related note, if the music is going to be some sort of central theme with your wedding and that's why you're so excited to share them with everyone, you could have musical-motif invitations? Music notes and/or instruments could be a fun addition to some fancy scrollwork, although that could be difficult to find unless you go custom.

    Good luck!

Won't they know there's a band once they get there? I wouldn't worry about announcing it. I'm glad you're excited about it!
