I communicated with a baker a while ago that I wanted some of her sugar cookies for my wedding and possibly a cake if she felt comfortable doing it. She said she was available and would do it, but several days later told me that her cake would not look the same as the inspiration photo I sent and apologized. I messaged her back to say no problem and to see if she had another idea for me, but she never responded?? I've tried to reach out but she takes forever to answer me and now my wedding is in 17 days. Luckily we found someone else to do the cake, but I still want the cookies.. What am I supposed to do?? Is there a way to still get the cookies and tell her someone else is doing the cake or... Do I cut my losses and see if someone else can do them?
Okay Here is the background: She is a friend I had in college (we haven't spoken in a few years, but as far as I knew no hard feelings?) who opened a local bakery a few years ago. From the get-go I've shared her posts and recommended her even though we didn't personally interact a lot, so I know that's bare minimum support, but it's all I had? She makes the most delicious decorated sugar cookies I've ever had, so I wanted to go with hers since I hadn't had great experience with others. When I messaged her back I let her know I really didn't mind if the cake was identical to the picture, and we could get together to come to a design that we were both happy with because I'm really not very particular (a naked cake honestly would have been perfect and she actually recommended it in the beginning). I don't really have hard feelings, but now I do feel awkward and it would be hard to recommend her to someone else since it has been so hard to communicate.. It sounded like maybe she didn't want to do the cake but didn't want to outright say it? I can absolutely respect it if things were more clear. So I'm disappointed and confused.
