Can i get something un-engraved that i got from my first marriage?

Imtheone4Him, on April 2, 2015 at 2:20 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3

This is sound worse than it is...Some years ago my parents bought my ex husband a I a beautiful knife and server set. It was expensive....For my second marriage we are not having cake so im not looking to reuse it on that particular day.....but i do cherish it because i came from my parents....I don't associate my ex with it at all...It has our names engraved on it..can i get it removed?

... well.... being in the same boat as you, here is how I feel about my 1st marriage...

Since you're not having a cake, and wouldn't use it on your day, the following won't apply, just wanted to put it out there tho! Anything that we used that 1st marriage mistake day, ALWAYS reminds me of that day, and that douche. So, I would not want to 'reuse' anything (on my wedding day to the right man) because in the end, it would always remind me of douche...

However comma, I do think you should get it removed & possibly re-engraved with something that would not be related to your new love (not your names), but maybe related to your future; ie: 'true love', 'love never fails', etc. or maybe even your new wedding date on them.

I'd take it to a jewelry store that does engraving and see what they have to say. It depends on what the material composition of the piece is, as well as how deep the original engraving is. My guess is that they'd have to buff the original engraving out, and that would be pretty hard depending on those factors.

If they can't do that, maybe try having a filigree design engraved over the names? Kind of like covering up a tattoo.

If it is sterling silver, it can maybe be buffed off.

If it is silver-plate, it can not be.
