Can i change the neckline on my dress?

Kayla, on August 4, 2019 at 8:31 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
Hi all, so I found my dress (yay!) but I don’t think the neckline flatters me at all. I’d like some cleavage. could I lower the scoop or change it to like my last pic?

I would speak to a seamstress. I would imagine anything’s possible for the right price.

I would say it probably possible but find a good seamstress and show her exactly what you want. Good luck.

A really good seamstress could likely do it, although with the lace it will likely cost you a pretty penny.

I agree with Kelly. Usually lace causes alterations to go up in price, sadly!

You can Lower the scoop, make it a v, maybe even a sweetheart, but you cannot make it strapless as is. The structure of the dress relies on the sleeves to hold the dress up. Unless you want to pay a TON of money to put boning into the bodice, you're going to at LEAST need straps.

I worked in costuming in theater for a while, making clothes from scratch. Unless there's structure that I can't see from the pics, I'm pretty confident in what I said above.

    Good luck!

Thank you for the response! Just looking to alter the neckline. I love the sleeves and want to keep them. I just don’t think the neckline is flattering on me, I think it was made for a fuller chested woman.

I agree that strapless wouldn’t be an option, the cost to add boning to hold it up would be very expensive.
It would be fine with straps but find a good seamstress that can alter the design to make the straps look like they came with the dress. You don’t want them to look like a tacked on afterthought.

So the ONLY way it won't be possible is it's macrame lace. That's the only one that completely unravels. I highly doubt it is (I think it's rare), but otherwise you're good to go. V neck is probably a safe choice...You're less likely to have pulling along the bust if it is big on you.

You can also have them put darts on/below the bust line or get princess seams sewn in. That might be pricey but it would allow you to make symmetrical alterations.

Hi Kayla!! Have you discussed this alteration with a seamstress? What have you decided to do?
