Can chiffon be cut out of a dress?

Bri, on August 8, 2019 at 6:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18
I found a dress I LOVE online that’s within my budget, but I’d love it even more if I could cut out the chiffon in the cleavage. Let’s be honest: I have a nice body, and having that V-neck from snipping out the chiffon would make me look more feminine IMO.

Would a tailor or seamstress be able to do that for me? Pic is the dress and I circled what I want altered out

Is this dress on amazon? If so I would not purchase it. I had to get three because two were damaged. (Zipper problems and holes in the tulle) the third I got was pretty but the fit is really weird. Without the chiffon it would probably not look right. There would be a larger gap than just a v look. If it’s not on amazon disregard. Smiley smile

It’s on Amazon, but that’s my budget. David’s, Vinted, Macy’s and JCPenney don’t have anything in my budget. My entire event has a budget of $2,000

A good seamstress should be able to cut that out for you.

I would take it to a couple of seamstress and see what multiple says. You don’t want to destroy the dress.

Yeah I'm sure that piece holds the shape of the dress but a good seamstress can make somethimg work. I actually love the chiffon in the middle and it allows for the deep cut design.

A seamstress should be able to cut that out, but I would worry that the edges of the lace wouldn’t lay flat without being attached to something.

I think it might affect the structure of the dress if you cut it out - a seamstress can probably find a way around it but it may be prohibitively expensive. I’d say take it to a couple of different seamstresses and see what they say.

I looked up your dress and read the reviews and it looks like several people did cut that peice put and the dress looks great on them! It looks like something you could probably just do yourself without ruining anything.

Hey I saw this same dress on Youtube with a bad review, and dress haul. Apparently, it did not look like the photos. Be careful!

Hopefully you can see what I am talking about in these two photos, though they are far away.

It is actually very easy to remove mesh like this, it looks like tulle which won't fray.

I did my own and it was very easy. First get clear thread and sew a line of sticking following just outside where you want to cut, to hold all the layers together and maintain the structure once you cut. Once that is done, you can freely cut out the center following the lace. You can see on my dress I left a bit of the illusion, but cut out the majority. I'm all it took about an hour, but I had much more to see down before.

Hi Bri! Have you talked to your seamstress about this alteration?
