Can a Pear Shape really pull off a Mermaid/Trumpet Dress?

MrsCosmetobe, on June 26, 2017 at 4:55 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

I'm in love with this dress that I a saw. It's perfect. But it is sheath type of dress. So of course it will hug my hips and butt a little before just draping down. I'm a pear shape and I was told the because of the hips, I should stay away from Sheaths and Mermaid dresses. Have any of you heard of this or agree with it? And no, I haven't tried the dress on because it is online. But I have went into David's Bridal and tried on different styles. The ball gown seems to puffy for me. I do like the fit and flare and A-line. But the mermaid didn't look right. Maybe if I lost weight, which I plan to do, then it will look better. But I'm not sure. What do you all think? Also, if you are pear shaped and have/had a mermaid dress, I would love to see a picture for motivation for myself Smiley smile

Girl, you wear whatever you want to wear. If a bride looks uncomfortable in her dress, everyone can tell. If a bride is confident in her dress and the way she feels in it, she glows. No need to listen to other's opinions of what should and shouldn't be on a 'pear-shaped' body.

Who told you this? Try the dress on and if you feel beautiful and comfortable in it, wear it.

Yes you can, essence and Stella york have some beautiful mermaid gowns for all sized ladies. The key is in the fitting.

I took this mid-alterations, so it's not done and pulling funny over my thighs, but I'm two sizes bigger on bottom than I am on top and I love how it hugs my curves. Wear whatever makes you feel awesome! Your future spouse fell in love with you for you, not what people think you should look like.

Truly any body shape can rock any type of dress! You just have to be confident and feel good while you are wearing it. I say try it on and see how it makes you feel.

Wear whatever you want and don't listen to articles or whatever that tell you you can't. They just make you feel bad. As somebody said, do not buy the dress for a body you plan to have later. You're going to put a lot of unnecessary stress on yourself. You're the bride and you will be gorgeous.

I myself shied away from a sheath dress because I was self conscious about my body shape (also a pear), even though I loved the dress.

Now I've got a fit-n-flare and I love it! Its more fitted than an A line, but less dramatic than a mermaid

I think it depends on the dress. I wouldn't rule out the whole category because of those articles. I think you should definitely go try it on! You know WW is honest and will let you know what we think if you want our opinion!

Wear what makes you feel confident and beautiful - that's what matters, not those stupid articles that just want us all to feel bad about having a, you know, shape

I tried on a trumpet dress and loved how I looked in it. However I ended up going with an A line dress because I felt more comfortable moving and sitting in it.

I personally think having curves and hips of a pear shape looks great in a fitted dress. I have a dress I'm not at all built for. I'm straight as a boy with no butt lol. I have a fit & flare. I feel fantastic in it & that's all that matters. Try it on! If you feel good & love the dress, go for it.

Don't listen to anyone!! If you love the dress then rock it girl Smiley smile everyone kept telling me you can't get a mermaid... you need a ballgown. I love my curves and a mermaid was my dream dress so that's what I got Smiley smile

Definitely try it on. I tend to develop a pear shape when I lose weight (my top end shrinks but my butt/hips don't proportionally) yet a hugs the hips style is what I get complimented in most. Rock it.

Try on every style and see what works for you and what you love, you don't have to limit yourself to some random pre-conceived notion about what fruit our human bodies most closely conform to. I'm considered a pear shape and I hated how A-line's looked on me, I ended up with a fit and flare.
