Calypso/West Indian uncle/father-daughter dance

GiselleinDC, on April 27, 2015 at 3:42 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

This is all driving me insane...all the hunting and searching is not quite providing the information I need. My uncle is giving me away and we were all born in Trinidad, but I can't seem to find a good Calypso/West Indian song for us to dance to? I am not interested in another genre...I want something from back home (ole or new). Help! 9 more weeks to go!

    HELLO, FELLOW TRINI!

    Do you want something upbeat?

My dad LOVED Sparrow. Maybe take a look at his songs?

I have no idea, but I can ask my mom's BF, he's from Trinidad!

    Hi Chris,

Yeah, I looked up some of his stuff, but haven't come across anything I think he and I could dance to.

    Future Mrs. Bahrman,

I would love it if you could post any info you find. I don't want to call my uncle and ask him and would actually like it to be a surprise for my family, so I can't seek their help.

Hey Girl I'm West Indian! Are you looking for more mainstream like: Wayne Wonder,Mr.Vegas or more Rupee (jump) or Dollar Wine? I'm definitely giving my Dj a list of Reggae, Calypso, and Soca songs to play!

    Hi Nay,

I have a good list of songs to give to the DJ, but am looking for something for me and my uncle to dance to that is smooth and mellow and classic. I don't want him whining in the middle of the dance floor, that's for everyone else to do and for me to do with my hubby-to-be! He, he, he.

I'm looking for the same thing! What do you think of David Rudder's Trini to the Bone? I was thinking of doing this but cutting it a bit shorter since its a little long. My dad is Bajan and I'm Trini but he is dreading the Father daughter dance so I wanted to surprise him with a fun soca song. None of my guests will understand this but it would be so fun for us!

Let me know if you find a good one.
