I have high anxiety that can sometimes lead to me blacking out.

Does anyone have any tips on calming nerves for the wedding

Are there any breathing techniques or things you do now that help?

If you’re feeling it is too overwhelming though, it would not be a bad idea to step away for a moment to collect yourself and then come back. Kind of like when people go outside to take a breather from everything and then head back inside

One of the reasons my fiance and I are choosing to do a first look is because we can also both be extremely anxious, especially when we are the center of attention. Since that is such an emotional moment, we thought doing a first look privately would help alleviate some of that anxiety and let us share that special time together privately vs. in front of a crowd (it also made more sense for the schedule). So that may be something to consider if you think walking down the aisle without seeing each other first will be too overwhelming.

Ah in that case I would keep the ceremony really short and basic and do as pp said where you say personal vows to each other privately

Matthew McConaughey's voice is the best. My FH and step son also use it. My SS has anxiety and this has helped him tremendously.

    Hello,

Turn your phone off 5 hours in advance or put on do not disturb. First look photos helps calm nerves before ceremony I also suggest making sure if your having an evening wedding to have breakfast and light Lunch and drink plenty of water Itis okay to make Pinterest board of wedding affirmations on Pinterest Smiley smile

Maybe essential oils? Practice breathing/counting techniques...I deal with anxiety too so I feel for you. I would practice these skills before the wedding to see what helps and what is effective for you. Sometimes for me, it's a food or a beverage that helps take my mind off of it too.

Def have time to yourself to settle your nerves! A glass of wine, your favorite book or movie, get your nails done, and even journal.

Talk to an anxiety specialist. I have an anxiety disorder and this sounds like one. At the very least they can give you breathing techniques and cognitive behavioral exercises to keep you from getting anxious to the point of passing out.

I agree with this. Blacking out sounds like a serious enough consequence to seek professional help.

It might be helpful to try some grounding techniques in the moment. Definitely great to try the things other people on here have suggested in the weeks and days leading up to the wedding, but having some “in the pocket” strategies are helpful too when you need them quickly. When you’re getting ready to walk down the aisle, maybe trying some diaphragmatic breathing, moving around, playing a fun little distracting game with your bridal party if you have them. When you’re up there in front of everyone, maybe making eye contact with FH, bringing your attention to sensory things around you by doing the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 strategy or an abbreviated version of it (finding 5 things you see, 4 things you hear, 3 things you feel on your body, 2 things you smell, and 1 you taste). It might also be helpful to have a glass of cold water on a little table next to you at the altar. Having the water was helpful to a friend of mine who experiences severe anxiety when she got married. If you’re prone to blacking out, it might also be a good idea to have some kind of cold wash cloth or ice nearby to place on your wrists. These are just some suggestions and not all may be right for you, so I would recommend trying them out and practicing some of them prior to the big day! Good luck!

I think that makes it even more important to discuss this with a doctor!
