Calming down

Bailey, on August 6, 2019 at 3:55 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8
What did you do to calm your nerves. My wedding is on Friday and I feel panicked. It’s a scary thought to take that next step. Also can’t sleep at night. Any advice?

Ah congrats ! I was also really nervous the week of my wedding. I went thru all our old love notes and text convos and pics. Sort of like a walk down memory lane and it just reassured me of how I chose the right man and then it just became excitement that I get to marry my best friend

I'm not sure if it works for wedding related stress, but sometimes when I have trouble sleeping I'll do yoga or meditation (there are at on of apps you can get on your phone to guide you through it) before bed. I also try to do the whole no phone or TV or tablet 30 minutes before bed to help relax! Liquid melatonin can also help too. For regular stress, I'll take relaxing baths or work out really hard.

Are you freaked about the details or marrying that person? If it's the details, take a deep breath, call your closest friend or FS to have a 3 minute freak out, put on mindless tv or go for a run, and maybe get some valerian root to help you sleep. The details will come together even with hiccups and it will be wonderful. If it's the other, think real hard before making anything permanent one way or the other. Good luck!

Thank you! These are all good notes to try and relax. I thinks it’s manly just having everything come together. I know he is the man I want to marry and I’ve been waiting for this day to come. Now it’s here and it’s scary haha. I should try to turn everything off 30 minutes before bed because that seems to be the time my brain wants to do stuff. I just lay there freaking out about everything that needs to get done and how the day will go.

The Thursday before driving to our destination wedding, I went for a massage. This was at the recommendation of my alterations manager, who said my shoulders were super tight at my last fitting and I needed to RELAX.

When your mind is racing like that, write down a list of everything you think needs to be done. It doesnt matter if you've written it down 20 times before. Just the exercise of doing it will allow you to relax because you wont forget if it's written down. Then, you'll be able to free up your mind with other thoughts. Try not to worry how the day will go. There's little you can do about it at 11 at night. Try to stay in the present.

I know I'm going to be unable to sleep the night before my wedding and I know that will make me hate life the day of the wedding. My current intention is ro spend the day/night before pampering myself. I intend to go to a yoga class in the daytime, get a massage before bed, and actually turn off my phone and read a book (I have the penthouse suite to myself). As for all the days leading up to that night 🤷🏻‍♀️. Maybe being totally exhausted from stress will allow me to sleep that night at least!

Looking at everything crossed off my to do list helped me so much! Lol I was always feeling like there were things to do but I would look at my master list and see that it was mostly crossed off and remind myself that if any minor details weren’t perfect, everything would be just fine. I went and got a super relaxing mani/pedi two days before the wedding which helped me relax too. The night before the wedding, I made a point to take a bubble bath and do my favorite face mask and just relax and watched my favorite light hearted vlogs.
