Calling fellow teacher brides!

FutureMrsH, on March 25, 2016 at 10:54 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

I'm stuck on who I want to invite from my school. I have two or three girls that I'm super close to, then a handful that I'm semi-close to. I hate to not invite them because it's almost been a group effort so far in planning. Who all did you invite from your school? Did you invite both principals? They traditionally throw a shower for anyone getting married or having a baby, so I feel weird not inviting people that throw a shower.

My school didn't throw me any type of anything. I invited those with whom I feel closest. If you have room for all of them I say go for it. As far as your principal, if you feel like you have a close enough relationship with them then I would

I'm inviting my mentor teacher (whom I now teach next door to), and a VP that I am close to. However, I will not be inviting any principals, nor anyone in the department I am not super close with. My department is pretty close and we hang outside of work a lot (as friends, not as colleagues), so I will be inviting the ones I see on a regular basis.

I'm inviting 3 coworkers. They are just the people I am closest with, go to happy hour with, and interact with outside of school.

I did not invite my supervisor or principal. I also didn't invite my grade level team. We're not that close and I'm not inviting people that I'm not close with.

I think there's a lot of pressure when it comes to work invites. Like "if I invite her, then I need to invite her." I just drew a really clear line and just invited those 3 with their fiances/husbands.

My criteria was "do I regularly spend time with them outside of work, as friends not just colleagues?" That fit 3 coworkers and their spouses, and a couple of former coworkers

Two of my coworkers were in my wedding party (MOH and bridesmaid). I ended up inviting quite a few others but they really were ones that I'm close to and socialize with frequently outside of school. I've been at my school for 11 years and it's a small school so we're a pretty tight-knit staff. I invited my principal but not the assistant principal because I'd never been close to the assistant principal. I felt comfortable with where I drew the line at inviting coworkers and I had a blast with them at my wedding.

I'm inviting my principal and assistant principals, and three good friends from work. There are other people I am friendly with, but if I invited everyone I was friendly with all of a sudden I would have a huge list! If I have spent time with their family, I felt like we knew each other on a different level. We throw showers for teacher at our school, but we just each contribute $5 towards a gift.

I invited three coworkers because they are the ones I spend the most time with and who I talk with outside of school. The social committee threw me a shower after school and about 30 teachers/assistants attended and everyone else also contributed to various gifts. I wrote them all thank you cards but did not invite everyone to the wedding. Both my principal and assistant principal attended the school shower but I did not invite them to the wedding because I haven't been working at the school for very long and we haven't gotten close yet.

I am friendly with a lot of my coworkers and we go out to happy hour often. However, I am not inviting anyone other than my co-teacher, who has been my co-teacher ("work wife" lol) for 3 years now.

I've asked her not to bring up the fact that she's invited unless someone specifically asks her. I also just told my other co-workers that we are having a small wedding and they understand.

Also...I definitely wouldn't invite my principal because she's a nut job. But if you actually like your boss, then maybe invite him/her.

I am not inviting anyone for my school. This is my first year here, and I am not super close to anyone. However, I am inviting one of former co-workers because we hang out together outside of school.

I'm inviting 2 fellow teachers. A friend of mine invited her whole class to the ceremony only. Is anyone doing that?

I'm inviting 1 teacher that I work with now, and one of my former coworkers is a bridesmaid. If you hang out with them outside of school and you have the room on your guest list then it would make sense to invite them.

So my situation was different. I got married over Christmas vacation and everyone was going home from Alaska to their families in the lower 48 or staying in Alaska for Christmas, because travel is expensive. I gave an actual invite to my friend/mentor teacher. A bunch asked for my registry information, so that got posted in the staff room with a copy of the invitation. Everyone else knew they were "invited" but no one was going to come and miss time with their families (and spend extra money to come).

However, the ladies threw me a bridal shower, which I did not ask for, and it was very nice. They invited all my friends from the village and school staff. We received a lot of nice gifts and had a fun time talking about the wedding. After we were married, I brought in the pictures and video tape of our wedding for anyone who wanted to watch it. Our friends who couldn't be there on that day enjoyed it and said we were ourselves and very happy.

Now two other teachers are engaged to each other. They have invited a few people from school, but gave us all save the dates. We will have a shower for them. They are not expecting anyone to come to their wedding because of the cost of traveling from here, but they know they are wished the best marriage. And we can't wait to see pictures when they come back.

@erica I teach highschool, so I have like 120ish kids. All of them expected to be invited lol. It's not happening; that's my guest list plus some.

My department always throws showers even though we know we're not invited, so one was indeed thrown for me.

I invited actually quite a few people from my school (I've been there for 9 years). No current admins, however, but former ones and current teachers with whom I socialize after school or lunch.

I think I'm inviting 2 coworkers. One who I've been teaching with for 10 years, who I regularly spend time with outside of school and another who is on my team and whose wedding I attended last weekend. We don't spend time together outside of work, but I feel like since she invited me to hers, I should invite her to mine, and I do really like her and work pretty closely with her.

I feel your pain!! I struggled with this! Eventually, I decided "If I like them, and they are fun and will get along well with everyone else, they get invited." I am not going to invite my principal. She has a very strained relationship with staff and I just don't want that.

I invited the ones I normally eat lunch with and discuss non-work related stuff with, the ladies from work I am in a cooking group with, and the people I coach with. If I know their spouse's name, their kid's ages, names, and activities, and they ask me about my life, they they are in.

Last year, a colleague got married and she didn't invite anyone from work at all. In all honesty, it became an "OMG, who IS worthy of being on her guest list?" type thing, and people seemed to be pretty offended, especially when she talked wedding plans and we all knew none of us would be going. There were even gals I thought for sure she would invite that she didn't. Of course, it was her day and she can do as she pleased, but it did create a little tension at times.

I teach and coach at a high school and my biggest challenge has been trying to convey to students and players why THEY aren't invited, I will be angry if they crash it, why they can't attend, but that I still care about them.

I know my team is throwing me a bridal shower and they know none of them are getting invited. I think it's super sweet that they want to throw me a bridal shower. I am definitely not inviting the principals.

Coworker showers make things awkward. But I don't think that obligates you to anything at all.
