Calling all NYC and Long Island brides

Jen, on January 24, 2013 at 12:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

I would love some straight-forward review of your wedding and reception venues, cost pp, what was offered, etc. I'm starting over with the venue. Looks like the Queens Farm Museum will be much more trouble than it's worth.

I then considered the Astoria World Manor... until I read all terrible reviews about the decor and food (Goodfellas-ish and needs to be updated in the worst way).

We've already considered The Swan Club, and it's still on the table, but I think I need to research some more. I've contacted a bunch of places, but waiting for them to call/email back. I'm hoping you ladies (and gents) can help me out here. Real objective reviews, not trying to sell me on their place like the banquet managers will do.

Budget is around $60pp for around 120 people. I don't care about buffet vs sit down, but FH is insistent on a sit down dinner.

Can you help a sistah out? Thanks in advance...

I cant help much even though i am in NYC we went with a venue in NJ, IMO they are much nicer and better quality believe it or not. i can tell you i have been to a wedding at jericho terrace and i thought the food was aweful. Russo on the Bay was actually more affordable from what i thought it would be. try talking to the venues about a buffet option, some will do it and it may be the cheaper option for a hall you may really love

May I ask how much per person? I don't want to waste my time or the vendor's time if they're no where near my budget. I was quoted $65pp at The Swan Club in Roslyn, and I may end up there, but I have to cut the list down. I can't afford $100 per person if they require a minimum of 150 guests, know what I mean?

I am paying $71 per person. Food, drinks, cake, cocktail hour.. all included. Need a minimum of 100 people.

I think everyone gets quoted differently, but I must say they are great.

Wedding planning/paying for/getting everything done can be stressful! I know where you are coming from!!! Good luck!

Wow Lauren thats a great price and the venue is beautiful...NJ is def more expensive depending where you go. The venue we selected is 135 pp plus tax and gratuity for a minimum of 150 people. Im not too sure we will make the amount of people which sucks but we loved the place

future mrs o you are getting married at a time that is also considered off season which is good (this is why we switched from nov to feb the prices are insanely cheaper) but your quotes may be higher than lauren because its getting closer to in season then her date

There is Leonards of Great Neck (LI), Antun's in Queens Village (I think), Marina del Rey (Bronx) and there is another catering hall near the Astoria Manor but the name escapes me right now.

@Lauren... thanks for the suggestion. I've made an appointment at the Larkfield Manor on 2/17 at 11am to tour. They're sending me package info as well.

I've already scheduled a tour at Mill Pond. I was on the phone so much today, and thru email, that we've booked every available weekend day through March 17th to tour different venues. I want my decision made and a deposit paid by April 15th. So I need to act soon.

    Hello Ladies,

It's hard getting $60pp. Would that be after tax and tip? @Lauren M. I'm a larkfield Manor bride too. I think that price is kinda high for January. (Off peak for LI RH) I got quoted for $60 in July in the day. I can't remember what I started with but after everything it was $98pp. So for 150 it's like $12k. You might also want to look at all inclusive packages. Also play around with the months, day and times... I have a day wedding on a Saturday in Oct. I can post the quotes I got for LI for fall 2013 it may help. But I def got quotes for $50-75 in January.

We were quoted March $65pp for Swan Club. That's a Sat night sit down 5 hr reception. Can't come too close to that anywhere else. I've contacted almost everyone on Long Island, and I'm booked for the next 2 months looking at places. I've heard $150pp all the way down to $65. Some want a 150 person minimum for a Saturday night.

I think when all is said and done, we'll end up at the Swan Club.

@Janelle, I'm not including tax and tip in that per person amount. I know that's going to be extra. I just know that I can't afford $125pp. $60-$70 is doable, as long as we rein in the guest list to no more than 120 guests.

We can't do all-inclusive because I've already signed contracts for photo/video/florist/invitations.

I've been to the Swan before. They do a nice wedding, but I was not overly impressed on the food. However, the prices are good. You may consider a Sunday wedding, which is usually a little cheaper. For your price, Manhattan is pretty much out of the question. For Queens, I would recommend:

    Douglaston Manor (www.thedouglastonmanor.com) - about $60 & up

Renaissance in LIC (www.renaissanceeventhall.com) - about $75 pp

    For L.I. - check out:

    Fox Hollow (*********@**************.***) - about $65 & up

    Mediterranean Manor (www.medmanor.com) - $55 & up

If you need help, let me know. Good luck!

Thanks, LR. Mediterranean Manor is where my brother got married the first time. Bad mojo there (marriage didn't last 2 years).

Fox Hollow quoted me $150pp, with a $5000 non-refundable deposit. Very popular place too, they're already booked for the entire month we're looking at. Day and night.

I have an appointment at the Douglaston Manor sometime next month. I don't have my calendar in front of me right now.

Renaissance in LIC I didn't even know about. I'll have to check them out.

    Thanks!

We booked with a company that has 4 teams of photographers. They guaranteed me that I would have first pick as soon as we have our date. They booked us for that date, and as long as we don't change our date less than 2 months before the scheduled date, we are locked in.

Woodbury Country Club gave me a great deal, and a way to make monthly payments that I can afford. But I want to see the place first. They also came in on our budget. As well as Shandon Court. All 3 places we are considering have everything we need.
