My Fiance and I are young and paying for our wedding ourselves so we want to do a honeymoon as cheap as possible as we will obviously be paying for that ourselves as well. We are from Utah and want to do a California honeymoon so we can drive there to save on airfare but we aren't sure where to stay. We want to have a mostly relaxing honeymoon with activities available if we want. I have no idea where has the best hotels as well as activities near by.

Listen to lyla!! She knows what she's talking about. That is some great advice! I love Santa Barbara! Very cute and quaint. Check out a restaurant called Jane. Fh and I loved it. The zoo there is small compared to sd but you can feed giraffes for like $15 which is an awesome experience. San Diego safari park is better than sd zoo in my opinion. Malibu is great. I do not recommend Venice beach!!! To me it was very dirty and there was pot everywhere. People rolling joints along the boardwalk etc. if your in to that kind of experience then it's good. But that's my least favorite beach. If you like something a little cleaner and less busy check out Coronado beach. Balboa park in San Diego had a ton of museums. A good aquarium is the aquarium of the pacific in Long Beach. But parts of Long Beach are a little rough so be careful if you choose to stay there. Monterey bay, I've never been there but I've heard it's gorgeous. If you're in to wine tasting I recommend Temecula. A great winery is south coast winery. A little pricey but so romantic. Ive heard napa is so beautiful but I think it's been more pricey... but check it out anyways! Del Mar is really nice but pricey! I wouldn't recommend trying to stay the night. Like someone said air bnb is a great option. Check out Groupon for discounts on activities like if you want to do whale watching or anything else like that.

Nas- We looked at a few venues in Solvang! Love it!! I agree with others that the Central Coast and Southern CA will be warmer. I grew up on the coat and lived in San Diego, both great places!

I also recommend San Clemente for a non touristy beach vibe. Air BnB is a great option to hotels. Love San Diego, Coronado Island- lots to do. You could even pop into LA, see the Hollywood sign and all that if it's your thing and you've never been. A day at Disneyland might be fun too!

Lots and Lots of great suggestions above. Something you may not have thought of is hostels. You can save a TON of money, and can still have a private room for a little more than a dorm room. We have stayed at lighthouses, old Victorians, and old mansions for very little money. Look at https://www.hiusa.org/ You can find TONS of interesting hostels all over the state, and even the entire US.

If you are thinking of San Francisco, check out Hayes Valley Inn @ http://www.hayesvalleyinn.com/

They are a "European style hostel" (I think that's what the website used to say), which means you have a private room, with a sink in your room, but the bathrooms are down the hall and shared. This is one of my favorite places to stay in SF, and is homey and comfortable, with breakfast included.

    Hi Valencia,
honeymoon in California is awesome! If you like historical Landmarks visit San Antonio winery in Los Angeles California and the California missions. There are 21 in the state.
Go to Hollywood, there is a hop on hop off double deck bus that can take you to common site-seeing area of LA, such as Beverly Hills, the original farmers market, and Hollywood forever cemetery,. If you are interested in amusement parks, There is Universal Studios, Six Flags Magic Mountain, knots berry farm (has it's own history starting with the cultivation of the boysenberry) and the world famous Disneyland. (I enjoy California Disney which incorporates key features of California (different foods, and wine/beer tasting). If you go in April, you’ll make it for the California Disney food and wine festival which is very impressive tickets sell out fast Since the pandemic. If you want to see most of California, take the Amtrak pacific surf liner. The train will travel from San Diego to San Francisco via the California coast: beautiful oceans and hillside meadows. There is a break in San Luis Obispo. In this region you can visit the wineries, Pismo and avila beach. Some hotels have natural springs to visit. Many hotels have concierge services they can also arrange tours. Congratulations and enjoy beautiful California. The weather is great!
