We did our first tasting about 9 months out. We’re doing a small cake for cutting, chocolate cupcakes with cookie dough filling, caramel apple cupcakes, and strawberry cupcakes. I don’t have any photos since my wedding is next weekend.

Our wedding is on 8.1.20 and our wedding coordinator at our venue advised us to order our cake in December.

Okay. Awesome! For your cake did you just do something simple for you to cut... like a 1 tier? Or? Congrats next weekend — hope you have a stress free next few weeks!!

Our wedding is early November 2020 and we are doing a cake tasting at the end of December this year (on my birthday)! It depends on the bakery. I reached out to two places, one let us do it whenever we wanted and the other suggested we wait until it was 6-9 months out because they are a smaller bakery.

What a fun way to spend your birthday!! I guess I can kind of see what each baker thinks that I am requesting pricing for as to when to order.

We’re getting married on 4/11/20 and did our tasting this month. For our big cake, the sketch from the baker is attached, we’re doing red velvet with cream cheese mouse filling and white chocolate buttercream. We’re also doing a chocolate sheet cake with raspberry purée and raspberry mouse filling and chocolate ganache frosting. The tasting was so fun!

We did our tasting/booked our baker 8 months out! We're doing a 4 tier wedding cake that feeds 152 & a 3 tier groom's cake that will feed 52. The wedding cake is strawberry & lemon cake, and the groom's cake is triple fudge with chocolate ganache, cookies & cream with marshmallow filling, and almond wedding cake. Smiley smile

That looks so cool. I love how the cake is a cupcake shape as well -- very unique.

We were set on one particular vendor for desserts and don't live in the same state that we're getting married in, so we ended up doing our tastings in April 2019 for a September 2020 wedding (rather than waiting until a later trip out where our baker might have been booked already)! I think in your case December should be fine as long as the baker you want to use isn't in super high demand. We're doing a small two-tier cutting cake based on this inspiration pic - https://img1.wsimg.com/isteam/ip/20b45041-5d51-432c-8cef-d3d471aa17e7/fe2804df-eade-4e38-b757-0b2c222492dc.png/ - with a sheet cake and cupcakes. We're going with four different flavors and I'll have to ask our DOC to set aside some of each because they're all amazing!!

My sister is a professional baker so we didn't have a tasting session but she knocked it out of the park! We had a brunch wedding and my sister provided muffins (lemon poppy seed, blueberry, raspberry white chocolate, banana chocolate chip and butter rum) Neither my husband or I like cake so we had a regular round cheesecake for cutting, and we served mini cheesecakes dipped in chocolate and white chocolate to our guests!

We booked our baker in August and are going for our tasting on December 7th (our wedding is February 29, 2020; leap day Smiley smile ). We're doing 2 or 3 tiers and haven't decided on flavors yet. We do know we aren't doing strawberry b/c my FH is allergic.
