Cake?

Alicia, on April 6, 2020 at 10:26 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15
What would you do? So we are having an ice cream bar for our main dessert at our upcoming wedding, but my fiance and I still want to have a mini cake to do the cake cutting. Do you think we need to have cake for the guests because we are cutting one?

It is not great to cut a cake and then not have any for the guests. Could you have cupcakes or make cake one of the options in a dessert bar?

I’m not a fan of having something specifically for the couple that you’re not also offering guests. You wouldn’t have friends over for dinner and eat cake while they only had ice cream. Maybe you could cut an ice cream cake?

Okay! I was thinking cupcakes could be an option, just might be over the budget!

You could always serve cupcakes and cut one of the cupcakes to help keep costs down but you still get to cut a cake.
I've been to a wedding where the only traditional cake was for the couple, I personally wasn't disappointed at the lack of cake because there was plenty of other stuff, and I knew that big wedding cakes are expensive.

I would offer a cake or cupcake as an option. One way to cut cost is to have your cake to cut ( show piece) and then have sheet cake in the back to be served to guests.

I Don't See Why Guests Would Have To Have Cake if Something Else Is Available.

My fiancé and I don’t eat sweets regularly so cake isn’t something we had to have originally. He loves this Michigan 4 berry pie from a local bakery so we decided to do pie for dessert. Then I started to think about it more and I really wanted the traditional cutting of the cake experience. Now, we have a local home baker making us a 3 tiered (6”,8”,10”) cake for $100. The bottom two tiers will be styrofoam and the top layer will be for us to cut and eat. I agree that if we have a cake we should also serve cake, so my plan is to get 2 Costco sheet cakes to serve along with the pies. An extra $40 won’t put us out and there will be plenty of options!

I agree with the PPs who suggested sheet cakes! This is a budget friendly way to still have the cake cutting, be able to serve some cake, and not have guests feeling they missed out

I think it would be nice to offer cake as well. It does not have to be a huge cake, but giving you guests the option of cake and/or ice cream would be nice. We had a full dessert bar with several different options, but we still provided wedding cake.

I think maybe you guys can order a small wedding cake to cut and then have your baker make a sheet cake which is normally cheaper.

Same! I went to a wedding where only the bride and groom got cake and champagne! They literally announced it was time for speeches, had everyone quiet down and attention on them, then poured their champagne in front of all their guests. We toasted with our water. Haha
