Cake vs Dessert Table

Marie, on October 3, 2019 at 11:20 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7
Hi everyone! We are meeting with our baker next month for our April Wedding in Sarasota, FL. We’re planning for around 85 guests to attend. I understand that the numbers can vary via location and baker but for those of you that have received quotes already- did you find that there was a large difference in costs between doing a simple tiered cake large enough to feed that many people vs doing a small cutting cake and a dessert table with assorted things like mini cheesecakes, cookies, brownies, macaroons etc?

Id really to prefer to go the dessert table route but not if it’s going to be a significantly bigger investment than just doing cake.

I found it to be around the same price. Like within $50ish. I personally am not a big cake fan so i knew i just wanted to do a simple cutting cake. Both FH and I are big cheesecake fans and a local place we love does mini one for $1 which was totally worth it. We are also getting canolis as well which is included in the price of our tuscan/italian themed buffet.

Hello fellow Sarasota Bride....I haven't done much digging, but we went to a local baker and was quoted 700 for the top of the cake and cupcakes for 100, and that price included delivery and set up with the stands. The venue offers dessert treats for $600 for 100 guests, accounting for 2 pieces a person. I am veering towards Nothing Bundt Cakes because I love their stuff, but we would be responsible for pickup, delivery and set up as well as the stands.

I think depending on how you go about it. For instance if you just get store bought cookies and desserts then yes it'd be cheaper

    Hi!!
    So exciting!!
What baker did you meet with? Our venue requires us to go use cakes by Ron unless we want to pay $3/slice for cutting.

That's exactly where we went...Cakes by Ron. My FH liked their cupcakes, but I think I was so stuck on wanting Nothing Bundt Cakes that I didn't appreciate them as much.

It was a little cheaper if we did a mini dessert bar vs. cake, like a few hundred dollars. I prefer mini dessert bars though, it's more options & easier to eat while dancing because they are smaller bites! Cookies were cheapest, then brownies, then cupcakes. We did a mix of cookies, brownies, cupcakes, and mini peach pies! Then we had a small cutting cake for pictures.

$3 A SLICE?! WOW that is a hefty cake cutting fee. I've heard of the cake cutting fee but that one seems a little much. Do they allow you to bring outside desserts as well?
