Cake Tasting!!

Gabrielle, on September 25, 2019 at 3:26 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

We are looking into a small cutting cake and cupcakes or possibly several 1/4 - 1/2 sheet cakes in different flavors since we are looking to have a guest list of ~180. (a friend of ours did this and it went over really well, lots of flavors and not all of fuss of a huge tiered cake)

Any recommendations on flavors that are crowd pleasers?

Definitely something moreso plain like vanilla and something to the chocolate side.

We are doing a small cake with 4 flavors of cupcakes. We really wanted key lime coconut and also chose s'mores, tiramisu, and caramel apple pie. Ours are more themed for our fall wedding at the beach but it was very important to us to have different flavor profiles so guests with different tastebuds could all find something to enjoy. So something safe like vanilla or chocolate but then add a sharp flavor with citrus and a flavor you both really enjoy.

We are going to do something similar. Since our wedding is in Key West we’re going to have some tropical flavors like coconut, key lime and berries. We will also be including red velvet, because it’s awesome. We feel like the point of having the cupcakes instead of a traditional cake is so people can try different things instead of your typical wedding cake.

Our cutting cake was italian wedding cake, and we had one option of italian wedding cake cupcakes. They were for sure the most popular! It was a vanilla almond cake with vanilla mousse filling and almond cream cheese buttercream. Our other cupcake flavors were red velvet, german chocolate, and "just peachy". We had mini peach pies, chocolate chip cookies, and red velvet brownie bites too. We planned on 2-3 bites per person (they were mini size) and we barely had any left!

We did 6 round cakes from Costco for 130 people, had one left over - I only tried the white cake with cream cheese frosting & strawberry mousse filling and it was the best cake I’ve ever had!
