I haven’t had one but a friend was telling me about one from a wedding she was s guest at. While the look is popular she mentioned that many guests including herself didn’t enjoy it from a taste perspective because it was very dry due to no icing. But perhaps others have had better luck?

I’ve never had one. But they just never look like they’ll be tasty.

I've encountered them at two different weddings and they were dry. Not for me, thanks. If a piece of cake has more frosting than I would like, it's very easy to not eat the frosting. But if there isn't any frosting and the cake is dry, there's no fixing that!

I worked at a bakery for many years and this is exactly the reason they did not sell naked cakes. There is almost no way to keep it from drying out if the cake needs to be refrigerated or sit out for any length of time. The owner did not feel he was selling a product he could be proud of and did NOT want to be known for selling dry cake.

Perhaps you can find a baker who specializes in naked cakes and has special tricks to keep it stable and still tasting good.

I think we're doing a very small, 2 tier semi-naked cake for our cutting cake because FH HATES frosting, but I didn't want a full semi-naked cake because I have heard they can dry out. For our guests we are doing cupcakes from a baker who I know uses tricks to keep them from drying out since I've used her a ton. Maybe you can do the same if you love the naked cake look and can't imagine parting with it?

We are going for the partial indecent look, my FH isn't a big sweets person plus having a handful of family/guests that are diabetic, so we decided to keep it simple vanilla bean cake with chocolate decadent filling and barely iced on the outside. We thought about doing the naked cake, but one of our biggest worries was the fact of the cake becoming dry, plus our baker gave us heads up about it as well.

I think the half-naked, semi-sheer cakes are beautiful! The naked cakes that have no frosting at all on the outside just look unfinished to me, but I think when a cake is lightly frosted so that some of the sponge still shows but the outside edges are squared off so that the cake looks really smooth and evenly filled, its a really pretty look.

While they look pretty I would be afraid that it could be very dry,
