Cake Stands....is it a necessary expense?

Fia, on June 15, 2019 at 10:17 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
Hello Fellow Brides and Grooms,

So I ordered our wedding cake today and am very happy to check another thing off the list of to dos. Now that this is done, I've been home wondering are cake stands a must? We are having a small wedding and our venue package comes with a 3 tiered cake. I love how the stands look etc. But I also have some concerns about using a cake stand as well. For instance, I'm afraid the cake stand will take away from the actual beauty of the cake to start. If I purchase one, I'll probably never use it again. I know I could rent one. But then I have to worry about getting it back to the company I rented it from and we are leaving for our HH that Sunday after we check out of the hotel. Plus I really don't want to worry about taking my cakestand back with us after the reception. I'm a bit torn...just would like some input and opinions on cake and cakestand.

Thanks in advance.

We aren't doing one. I don't want to buy 1 and be stuck hoping I can resell it. Our venue doesn't have one, and I feel like renting one isn't worth the cost. The cake can sit on a table. It's delivered on that shiny cardboard anyway.

    No, I wouldn’t say it’s “necessary”.

I opted for one because we are having a small cake that is primarily for decoration and cutting (then sheet cakes in back for serving) so I wanted it to sit up from the table more so it doesn’t look too tiny. We are having a barn wedding though and our centerpieces are sitting in chunks of wood, so we just cut a thicker wood piece to serve as a cake stand so it was free. If I had a larger cake or had to actually buy a stand though I wouldn’t consider it a necessity.

Cake stand is definitely not a necessity! If you don’t need it, don’t have it. The cake will still look great directly on a table.
We are using a stand because I found one that I adore, that fits our theme perfectly & it comes in our wedding color! I know I will use it after the wedding, because I like to make fancy cakes for special occasions, so it will be a nice memory too 😊

I wouldn’t not get one because you think it’ll take away from the cake, I believe cake stands showcase and add to the beauty. But if you don’t want one due to extra expenses then that makes more sense to me.

I am in a similar situation and we ended up getting one off of etsy. It has our wedding date and names on it so we can reuse it as a platter or cake stand later. I think it's worth it. We got something more affordable for the groom's cake.
