Cake related - who knew finding a cake stand would be so difficult?

Amanda, on April 29, 2013 at 2:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Help! We already have a stand for our 200-count cupcake tower, but I can't seem to find a simple, small cake stand for the cutting cake for FH and I. It's a two tier cake, 8" and 6" layers, in a turquoise and white ombre pattern very similar to this picture.

Would a 12" cake stand be too large for a cake this size? What size cake stand did you use, and where did you find it? Thanks!

Did you try Pier 1, Home Goods? Or even Big Lots? Sometimes even Marshalls or TJ Maxx will cute stands.

I can't really help but that cake is gorgeous! I've found that cake stands can be very pricey so I'm going to attempt to make my own. I think that a 10-12" stand would be good for an 8" cake. If you can't find one, you could make your own with a platter and candlestick.

BHLDN and Macy's both had a few choices for smaller cakes

A 12-inch cake plate will give you a 2-inch border around your 8-inch cake. Won't be bad, especially if you'll have any decor at the bottom of the cake.

Do any of your or FH's relatives have a white cake stand to lend you?

One of my brides borrowed cake stands from a bunch of relatives and used cakes as the centerpieces for the tables. We chose our table by the flavor of the cake!

Do not stress over the size of the stand. NO ONE is going to notice how big the cake stand was. 4" bigger= 2" all around. Sounds perfect to me. I found a cute white stand with little crystals that dangle off of it at HomeGoods for 20$, but before that I would have borrowed my MIL cake stand, which is just a glass stand.

Sorry to leave y'all hanging, I was in a meeting! Thanks for the tips, I will check into them at home. I love the look of the short stand for sturdiness concerns.

@Amy, my baker swears by the Save on Crafts cupcake tower. It's cardboard, but apparently very sturdy and can be dressed up. Not sure if we'll go that route or just get several small platters.
