Cake Question

Kailyn, on July 25, 2019 at 12:15 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12

We have a two tiered cake, and cupcakes. Dinner is at 7:30 and the venue suggests: 7:00 Grand entrance, 7:05 Cake cutting, 7:10 Speech/Toast. Will that flow?? I've only been to one wedding I don't really know the process

That's kind of early for cake cutting unless you don't have a meal reception and it's just a cake and punch reception?

Why does the venue suggest the cake cutting before dinner even begins? I’ve never seen that at a wedding, even at one’s where the cake was served as dessert.

Cake cutting before dinner? Nope......I don't think so. Is 7pm the very earliest you can be introduced at the reception? If so, then I would do: 7pm intro; 7:05 first dance; 7:15 toasts and/or speeches; 7:30 dinner; 8:30 cake cutting.

If you can start earlier, I would do that, but I still think cake cutting should come AFTER dinner. Just my opinion.

I've seen cake cutting before dinner on a few timelines here on WW, but that's not common in my area and I've never seen it done at a wedding. I guess the idea is that the staff can cut the cake during dinner so it's ready for guests as soon as they're finished with their meal. I'm not a fan of it, but if it works for you, go for it.

Cake cutting before dinner isn’t the typical order. Most guests will probably be expecting it to happen after dinner as well.

It's just what the venue and their chef recommended. That's why I'm asking.

I honestly think we are going to do first dance and cake cutting before dinner. That way it can be ready for guests after their meal. We are also not doing speeches and a lot of formal stuff. So formalities first, dinner and then party.

I know people talk about cutting the cake before dinner but I have never actually seen it happen and i also think it's strange to do so. If you are uncomfortable doing it before dinner you can say so; it's your choice not their's. Where is your first dance going in the timeline? Do you know?

I have never heard of cutting a cake before dinner. I don't think there is anything wrong with it, necessarily. I just think it is odd.

I don't think anything is wrong with it but I find it a little odd to cut the cake before eating dinner...

Also, is 5 min enough time?
