So i just ordered a cake, and am doing a cake pull. Traditionally, it's a custom for single ladies in the bridal party. I'm on the other side of 30, and all of my bridal party is married, as are most of my friends, so I won't include the ring charm. I was wondering what's the average number of people to include in this? Is there etiquette? I'd like to include my closer friends from all stages of life in this. Do you let people know ahead of time, or just have them come up at the time?

@Malei that one definitely wasn't done right. Typically you choose who will do the cake pulls prior to the wedding day and have that many pulls. I've never seen a wedding with extra ribbons.

@Katelyn That makes sense. It's never done here so maybe that's why that was the first and last time I've seen that done. Haha! I thought it was a game or something until the garter toss happened right after that so I figured it took the place of the bouquet toss... which it was.

Sounds like it could be really fun! I agree to skip the high chair charm or anything baby related though because it could be too sensitive for some people.

Plus some people may consider a baby charm a curse Smiley winking

I've never actually seen it at a wedding; mostly at showers. I think it's sweet.

The weddings I have been to there have usually been 8 doing the cake pull. Another NOLA bride here! Not doing a cake pull, though.

Sounds fun and classic. Do it however your heart desires.

If you have more women than there are different charms, would you have 2 of some?

I have heard of this before and think it would be fun!

Thanks for all the advise everyone! Glad to hear that some people have done it with their married ladies Smiley smile Also, thanks for reminding me about the baby charm..I will definitely be removing that (or maybe somehow arrange it secretly so I get it, haha...we'll be starting looking into IVF/adoption soon after the wedding). I'm excited to do it! I guess I'll have to see which friends actually RSVP yes before I get final numbers. I think the bakery requested them like a month in advance, so I have time Smiley smile

I plan to know ahead of time who is going to participate, so I can arrange for the correct number of pulls, but I'm still debating if I should let the girls know ahead of time, or have the DJ surprise them in vivo?
