Cake Pops?

Tara , on June 5, 2018 at 1:46 PM Posted in Planning 0 17
Hi, has anyone here ever had cake pops for their wedding instead of a traditional wedding cake? I want to really encourage the people attending to dance during the wedding reception, so I’m thinking this might be a better idea than a traditional cake.

I'm cake pops are gross. Just serve the cake at the end of the meal.

I’ve had them at weddings, but they are small. So I would expect each guest to have at least 2 of them.

Like in this picture with maybe a small cake, too. We will be having around 90-110 guests.

Well that’s not good. They cost around $2.25 to $3 a piece.

Yeah thats about 1/4 of a slice of cake, at the most. You will ned a few per person. I dont get why you think this will help facilitate dancing? Ive been to tons of weddings with cake, everyone was dancing.

Also if you are clumsy or drop a lot when you eat, cake pops would not facilitate more dancing. I always tend to make a mess with cake pops 😌

I think in theory its a nice idea, but practically I don't think it makes much sense especially since 1 cake pop costs more than 1 slice of cake, and you'll need multiple pops since they are significantly smaller than cake slices. Usually people eat dessert for 10-15 minutes of the whole reception, I don't think it will impact dancing at all!

I’m just worried people are going to spend too much time sitting down and eating. Plus, I’ve found a lot of people complaining about their cake not getting eaten. So I thought this might solve that problem.

I think it would end up being more expensive. 3 cake pops would equal a slice of cake. Guests would be pretty disappointed only getting one cake pop each. I totally get where you're coming from with not wanting guests to be seated often, so we choose a wedding package that has dessert hor d'oeuvres passed around, things like smores shooters, mini donuts, mini cheese cake, mini tarts, etc. We will also be having cake because it's included in our package too. But maybe the dessert hor d'oeuvres would work out well for you too!

I think cake pops look cute, but maybe not a good alternative for the cake.. You’ll have to buy 2 or 3 per person and most of the time you take one bite and they fall off. I also don’t understand how cake inhibits the dancing?

I think it all goes to your schedule. At what time do you plan on cutting/serving the cake? Then do you have a DJ thats going to encourage people to dance and get on the dance floor. What type of crowd do you have coming to the wedding...are they the type to dance and get out there, I think that matters too. I dont think it will depend on whether or not they had a cakepop

While I don't agree that cake pops are gross I have had some pretty amazing ones from local shops in my area. I would prefer cake/cupcakes at a wedding to cake pops. I would not dance with a cake pop in my hand if that's what you mean. When I eat cake at a wedding, it's usually 3 minutes of eating and I am right back out to the dance floor, I wouldn't worry about stopping the party for cake.

They are rally cute, but usually small compared to a slice of cake, and also quite spendy

We had cake pops on our dessert table. But they're kind of small so I wouldn't have this be your only dessert.

I don't find them tasty and I would much rather have all the carbs from a slice of cake to soack up some of the booze and dancing hunger. I dance with no problem and grab my cake from my place setting or dessert bar.
