Cake Knife and server necessary?

Katie, on July 10, 2018 at 11:00 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14
One thing I didn't think of getting for our wedding was a cake knife or server. Are these really necessary? I've seen people selling them for $5 mostly used for a prop for pictures. So question is did you actually use yours? Or only use it for a prop?

We bought and used ours and unfortunately the knife was accidentally packed up with our rentals so I have to see if the rental company can return it. I’ve been a dessert fiend since the wedding and used the server at home already and plan on using the set when we have special occasions and guests around.

If you don’t want to buy, see if your venue or caterer can provide one. But $5 for a used set sounds worth it to me.

We had them, and used them for pictures, but most of the cake cutting was done back in the kitchen with regular kitchen tools. And really, they aren't necesssary.

Our venue provided these for us to cut the cake. This was a detail I didn't care about.

It isn't necessary, but can be a nice thing to have. My FMIL bought one for us that we can have engraved, but O see it as an extra step of dishware I didn't have to buy later on 🤗

If your venue doesn't supply them, I would definitely purchase them. I know you can get some pretty cheap at Michael's or Walmart!

We didn't buy any, the venue had one sitting by the cake that we used for pictures.

My venue has one to borrow and that's what we're doing. I'd not spend $ on one!
