Cake flavors

Arianna, on March 10, 2020 at 11:57 AM Posted in Planning 0 11
Hello!

My fiancé and I have our cake tasting next weekend and we cannot decide on our combinations that we want to try. We will have three tiers and one of them has to be confetti (fiancée request). What flavor combos sound good to you? Is it weird to do one tier of chocolate and another with a vanilla based cake? TIA❤️

Having a chocolate tier and a vanilla tier isn't weird to me at all. Our cake was supposed to be two chocolate tiers with dulce de leche filling and one vanilla tier with strawberry compote filling all frosted in cream cheese icing (it ended up being one chocoalte with dulce de leche, one vanilla with dulce de leche, and another vanilla with strawberry compote. Not sure how that happened but oh well)

I always love chocolate with raspberry, strawberry/mixed berry is great with vanilla. You'll probably have to have the same icing on all tiers so it'll all be the same shade of white/cream (unless you're doing colored icing or something). Honestly those all sound like good flavors to me, but it'll definitely depend on the tasting itself!

Not weird at all! Are you planning to keep and freeze the top tier as your one year anniversary cake? That's what we're doing, so if your fiance is requesting a layer be confetti, you could do that!

Honestly, none of my layers go together. We're also doing 3 tier, bottom tier is red velvet with cream cheese filling and chocolate buttercream icing, middle tier is lemon poppyseed with alternating lemon curd and strawberry filling, and a vanilla buttercream icing, then top tier is carrot cake with cream cheese filling and buttermilk buttercream icing.

Oh all of them sound good. I'm big a sweet eater. I think chocolate with strawberry or raspberry sounds good. Are you doing a filling with the confetti? I also really like when something is different the lemon poppyseed with lemon curd sounds awesome too.

We are doing cupcakes but going to have a small cake to cut into and a cake to take home. For the cake we are taking home it's a vanilla cake with blueberry filling (my FH's favorite dessert is anything with blueberries lol). Then red velvet cupcakes, carrot cake cupcakes, chocolate with mint filling, and vanilla with blueberry filing. I'm super excited for them. We are also going to have an assortment of cookies and pecan tasies (basically mini pecan pie circles with pastry dough forming a cup around the filling.

Our baker let us taste ALL 21 flavors!!! we then were allowed to choose 2 flavors for our 3 tier cake (the cake was included in the price of the venue).

Our cake is going to have 3 tiers. One is chocolate cake with mint cream cheese icing with a strawberry filing. One is carrot cake with lemon filing and cream cheese icing. The third we haven't decided but will probably wind up being a banana cake with fresh fruit filling and a citrus butter cream. We love mixing and matching. Nothing wrong with that.

btw this is our dream cake. We are still scouting for bakers.

Not weird at all! We have a chocolate tier and a lemon tier, and I don't even think that's weird.

We chose marble with a chocolate Bavarian filling and it was delicious! We love chocolate and vanilla so it was the best of both worlds

    I don't think it's weird at all.

    Our 3 tiers are:

German chocolate with chocolate mousse and raspberry jam filling

Vanilla with vanilla custard and raspberry jam filling

Red velvet (FH request too!) with whipped cream and raspberry jam filling

We included the jam on all 3 layers because we LOVED it. It wasn't overly sweet, which we hate. Our baker is originally from overseas (I honestly cannot remember where now) and she noted that they don't put as much sugar in things as America does. So everything was the perfect amount of sweetness and we LOVED it.
