Cake Flavors and Designs!!

Those ideas are gorgeous and everything sounds super yummy!! Right now we aren't serving wedding cake as my FH doesn't like cake, we are doing an apple cider donut sundae bar, however we will be having a small cake for cake cutting purposes that his sister will be making with ingredients that her two kids can eat (they have some food allergies) - so it will be whatever flavors the girls pick since they'll be the only ones having it!

That sounds really awesome, and those cake designs are gorgeous! My FH also loves funfetti, so we're doing funfetti cupcakes with our cake (chocolate with chocolate ganache and raspberry mousse). We'll also have some cookies (probably chocolate chip) for those who may not like cake.

We haven't gone to any tastings, but I have my "prospective" flavors.

One is almond cake brushed with Frangelico, filled with hazelnut praline buttercream and dark chocolate ganache.

The other is dark chocolate cake brushed with Grand Marnier and filled with orange marmalade.

As for design... so background: we picked a science museum as our venue. The reception is going to be in a fossil exhibit. Big dinosaur skeletons. And I'm actually kind of starting to consider having some fun with the whole fossil thing. This was one idea I came across that I am wild about because it's minimalist but has that unexpected detail:

I wouldn't have the branch in there. I'm thinking maybe a small fern burst instead, like below:

Yum!! I love donuts, but just like your FH doesn't like cake, mine doesn't do donuts lol. That is awesome that your SIL will make the cake, I did my best friend's cake while being her MOH and that was her wedding present from me

That is so exciting!! My cake lady (old boss who promised to do my wedding cake) is coming up from Utah to Wyoming just to do my cake so we won't be having a tasting (I know her flavors well enough anyways). You should update us on what flavors you like after the tasting!!

Haha funfetti is the best! I make it for him for every birthday and he gets it in milkshakes, anything labeled "funfetti" lol! Those flavors sound awesome!

That sounds like a dream!! We just went to the Denver museum with dino bones and FH was soooo excited to show me all the awesome bones and exhibits. I can only imagine how spectacular that will be, I love the indents of fossils, that sounds so unforgettable! And you can't go wrong with dark chocolate and orange!!

I didn't buy the cakestand my friend did. So, I am not sure where she bought it. But I googled quickly and found this one:

I think it is the same. And then she put some faux green and flowers through it. The flowers and green on the cake are actually real and the flowers and green under the cake faux.

Your cake flavors sound so good and I LOVE your cake designs - the mountains and trees are so cool!

We're going to do a two-tier cake with sheet cakes to supplement, and three different flavors (his, hers, and ours lol). FH wanted red velvet with cream cheese buttercream and chocolate ganache. I wanted almond with raspberry buttercream and raspberry preserves. And we both loved the idea of black bottom cake (chocolate cake and cheesecake swirl) with salted caramel buttercream!

Below is our design inspiration: top tier plain white with the piping detail, bottom tier a blue ombre watercolor effect. We'll probably get some flowers from our florist to add to it as well.

Thank you!! I saw it from a local wedding website and become totally obsessed with it. I love the look of watercolor, and the white stands out so well and has just enough detail to balance with the other tier!

You'll have to use your imagination for mine but I'm pretty jazzed for it. The flavor is strawberries & cream. The layout will be like the pink/orange you see below but actually use the color palette of the blue cake with a gold chocolate sail at the top. So excited to see how it comes out.

We're a ways off so we haven't decided yet, but I DEFINITELY like the idea of having either chocolate cake or chocolate frosting
