Cake Decorations - Appropriate?

Mrs.a.brown, on January 3, 2019 at 6:30 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 21
Ok, so I'm having my wedding at a wildlife preserve and I had this idea for my wedding cake or as part of the decorations. I not sure if its disrespectful for the type of setting or not. Thoughts?

    I don’t think it’s appropriate.

For that type of setting I do see it as a bit disrespectful.

Yeah, I definitely think that's crossing a line.

I personally would be a tad bit uncomfortable using that cake in that type of setting. Are you going for more of a moody boho look?

My initial intention was more a rustic romantic theme, but still wanted to incorporate our love for edgy almost goth. My FH is a heavy metal head and I'm a closet goth. But the wedding is in August and not october where something like this a more accepting. We don't usually show that side to the outside world, but want to during this occasion.

This still has a edgy feel.

Gotcha!! We both have an edgy side here as well. We ALMOST went the whole "till death" wedding theme, skulls and all. But eventually it started to seem like a huge Halloween bash. I love the idea of bringing out that side during your wedding. Very personal, which are my FAVORITE type of weddings!! Maybe you guys could do an almost exact cake without the animal skull? It takes some digging but I've seen some awesome edgy cakes in rabbit holes on pinterest. I'm talking like 2 hour binge sessions. 🤷‍♀️

I feel that on a Wedding cake, regardless of the venue, that doesn’t really work.
Weddings are about New Beginnings, not endings as a skull is.
There are ways to do Goth, Halloween style that doesn’t cause a cringe from some of the guest. To have a Wildlife Venue and the skull is just not a good idea.

That's a cool idea for a cake but due to your specific venue choice it seems out of place.

I think it’s awesome, but I’m an alternative bride and do whatever I want. Lol. I say if you and your future spouse love it - go for it

I don't think it's respectful to the venue.

If your wedding was just in the woods it would be fine, but because it's a wildlife preserve, I believe that cake decoration would be inappropriate and tasteless.

😂 I see your dilemma...that cake is awesome, but I agree maybe not at a nature preserve.

I love the cake, but not for your setting. I think you can still make it metal/goth with dark colors and maybe black lace? If you're going to use bones and skulls, maybe the person making your cakes could incorporate "bones" or "skulls" (as in human, not animal) out of modeling chocolate.

These are a few examples. You'd have to watch your colors if you don't want to go too Halloween-y, but I do think it can be tastefully done

I'm getting a lot of good feedback and ideas from everyone! I've found a few others that match our style, but I'm running into mismatch issues. Go figure. Watch, I'll end up with the simple classic cake...haha...I did narrow it down to these 5 designs, but might go a little crazy with more ideas.

As much as I like the design of the previously posted cakes; I talked w/ my fh and determined we would rather have something much simpler, but not so common. Here is a pix of what we've decided on. Thanks for all the help you gals/guys!
