Cake & Cupcakes Cost

Anne, on February 27, 2019 at 12:42 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5
What's a rough cost for a 2 tier wedding cake? My venue holds 199 people max. I was thinking a small 2 tier wedding cake and 300 cupcakes. I'm just trying to get a rough idea on how much that would cost before I start going around to different vendors.

Cost is completely dependent on the area you live. If you search on WeddingWire it has average cost for vendors in your area. I would just reach out to a few places and ask about pricing. Because where I live a cake is $10-$12 a slice but I’ve seen people post on here about getting cakes for $3-$5 a slice.

We were quoted $5-7 per slice, so we opted for a dessert bar (cupcakes, cookies, etc.)

It depends on where you live, which bakery you go to, etc. Bakeries around here are more in the $3-$7 range per slice for cakes and about $2-$4 each cupcake. I'm doing a small 3 tier cake from Sam's (one tier to take home, one to cut for pictures, the rest to eat) and cupcakes. The cake feeds 66 and is about $80 and the cupcakes are $15 for 30. We aren't big cake people, so for me, it wasn't worth spending $500+ on a cake so we went a cheaper route because my guests won't care either way. I asked probably 10-15 bakeries/home bakeries/stores, etc for pricing.

Yes, it's definitely an "in my area" price. Here in the Midwest, a slice is typically $3-5 a slice and cupcakes are $2-4 a piece.

The way you find out cost is by emailing and calling vendors. You don't have to do anything more than that if you don't like someone's pricing! That's the only way to compare because the location is key to what costs will be. Like for instance one bakery told me my cake would cost $500 and I almost laughed at her. She was pushy and asked if I'd like to move forward and all I told her was that I was pricing around and she tried to give me some crap about how a price per serving isn't exactly correct when it comes down to flavor choices and design, oh and that she uses real ingredients and other shops use cake mix. I'm like okay... yet you're expensive and don't even have your own physical shop and are trying to "bad mouth" other bakeries as if they don't use fresh ingredients when she couldn't possibly know that? lol. Some websites will even post their per person prices online or will send you a quick menu via email! Also remember to ask about delivery fees Smiley smile
