FH and I are trying to figure out what to do for cake. Cake is the one thing our caterer doesn't provide, so we have to obtain it separately. They can slice and plate it, but will not move it, because they dont want the liability for ruining it before pictures or accidentally knocking it over before it's sliced.
It was suggested by our DOC and venue that we 2 cakes: one that we would cut for photos with the remaining tiers as mock tiers, and have a sheet cake in the kitchen which would be sliced. Here are my questions:
1) As a guest, do you care or can you tell the difference?
2) As a guest, can you taste the difference between grocery store cake and wedding bakery cake? I've seen some great designs done by grocery stores, but I'm wondering about taste. I don't want it to taste like standard birthday cake.
People on WW have also recommended this as a way to cut costs.
Thanks for your advice!
