Cake and/or dessert bar tips

neenabeena, on January 31, 2016 at 1:46 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

So I want to have a dessert bar full of amazing baked goods but I know some guests just love wedding cake. For those who are considering one or both , how are you deciding how much to get of each? Our dinner and cocktail hour food is hearty So I want to avoid having too much left over food . We are planning for 200 ppl.

Excellent question. I usually see the cake and desserts hit pretty hard after dinner but I don't know what the couples had for dinner menus. ...

because I'm hungry right now here's my detailed opinion ...

50 lemon drop cupcakes with cheese cream frosting.

50 raspberry filled cupcakes with a butter cream frosting and white chocolate shavings.

Plates and plates and plates of 7 layer bars.

A few jars of chocolate chip cookies with pitchers of milk and glasses nearby.

    An assortment of fruit cups.

    An assortment of fruit tortes.

Apple pie, cherry pie, blueberry pie ... A LA MODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Smiley smile

My FH is all about the sweets. We picked an all inclusive wedding venue so this is what they give us: wedding cake, Viennese deserts (tarts mini pies etc) and a mini waffle bar with ice cream but we are having 130+

We're doing cheesecake pops, tarts, pies, cookies, cupcakes, and cutouts.

Wedding cakes are so over rated. Smiley winking.

We have had a professional wine tasting at our marriage, because our venue was in italy, a wine-full area. It was a very nice wedding. We´ve rent a tent , (one like you see on

http://www.roder.com/en/tents-halls/event-tents/roeder-w-tents/octagonal-wine-tent/ especially for wine tasting), but its not the original tent, we´ve had. We´ve placed much and nice cheese variations and very goodtasting Bread, in that tent. Afterwards i realized that at least everybody drank wine and ate cheese. I loved it! ;D

Do you like the idea of having a wine tasting tent for your wedding? My hubby and me drink a lot of wine (We´re at our full conciousness, no worry) so we thougt this would be a good idea.

There were other food, snacks and so on, too. Cant give them just wine and cheese, haha.

    Regards

We're doing assorted pastries, favor boxes and Caribbean ice cream. I'm also thinking about a candy bar since it's only a extra $300.

Vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream frosting, red velvet cake with vanilla frosting, cheesecake, vegan chocolate cake, Boston cream cupcakes, lemon cupcakes with lemon butter cream. We'll also have Hershey's kisses, yogurt covered pretzels, passed chocolate truffles and warm chocolate chip cookies that come with a shot of vanilla ice cream.

ETA: I will be putting out favor bags so people can grab and go.

I guarantee you'll have leftovers. I'd put out favor boxes or bags so guests can grab a dessert to go :-)

Yummmm y'all are making me hungry!!!! Lol yeah I guess we should plan desserts for like 150. I want just a little cake just to cut and eat back at our hotel that night. I love cupcakes so maybe I'll get tons of mini cupcakes, and shooter desserts . Offering milk is a great idea hmmm

We're planning for about 200 as well - the three-tier wedding cake will cover 75-85 per the bakery, the groom's cheese "cake" will cover about 40 at 3 oz. per (those like FH who don't do sweets), and we'll make up the balance with dessert bar items. We are also having that candy buffet on which my mom insisted though.

For those of you doing donuts, how do you keep them fresh? I've heard to only sit donuts out for 2 hours but I feel like desserts should be out the whole night? I really want Krispy Kreme but I'm worried they will get hard or dry out?
