Cake and sweet table

Alyssa, on May 24, 2019 at 10:47 AM Posted in Planning 0 4
So we are doing a sweets table because my mom is insistent on it so we will have small pastries, chocolate cover strawberries, cannolis ect. We are also have a cake (2 different flavors) I plan to have the cake just served on the sweets table so nothing gets ignored.
But right now I only have 100 slices of cake. Our final invite is 192, because of people that already told me they cant attend or they're not brining a guest I cant imagine our number will be any higher then 170. But do I order more cake? I am able to order a sheet cake. But I'm torn if I should or not. I dont want everything to go to waste. My coordinator at our venue told me that she doesnt think I need more cake because people tend to take more sweets.

Idk what to do, get more cake or just leave it?

If you were going to be only 20 or so short I'd say to not worry about it, but if you might be 70-90 slices short that's seems like too big of a risk for someone who wants cake not getting it. I feel like even when there's other desserts most people like to at least try the cake. I think it might partially be a know your crowd situation. I know I pretty much always take both at weddings (cake and other desserts) but I know there's also people who will only take one dessert.

I agree with Meghan. Plus, most places let you box up leftover cake so you can make sure if goes home with people and doesn't go to waste.

You should be ok! We only have 1 cake and a dessert table for 170 ppl, my cake is 84 slices but I am going to instruct the folks cutting the cake to slice those by 1/2, so I’ll have 160 or so smaller pieces of cake. Plus a lot of times guests don’t even want cake. I also have about 250 dessert pieces on top of that for variety!

You should be fine-not everyone eats cake anyways. But if you're worried about having enough ask the servers to make the slices slightly smaller. Worse case is you have leftovers.

As for additional sweets I would pass. That's an additional cost and piece to set up. I've been to weddings that had sweets tables and they ended up a mess and no one took anything.
