Cake and covid

Theresa, on June 16, 2020 at 7:45 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
I am wondering what other brides are doing about their cakes with current food/catering guidelines. We were planning on displaying a small cake for cutting and for my fiancé and I to share and having cupcakes for our guests. I just found out today that no buffet style food is allowed. Period. I am waiting to hear back if this officially also means that a cake cannot be left on display. For the cupcakes, rather than having them set out as planned, I was thinking about getting cute individual boxes (the waste involved kills me), but don’t really know what else to do. Maybe treat them like “passed hors d’oeuvres? We are not serving a meal and are having a late evening wedding in a music lounge, so we will not have traditional tables set up where cake or cupcakes could be served. Anyway, just thought I would get a little creative input! Thank you!

That’s a cute idea ! Maybe you can just have someone handing them out to people

I think the box idea for the cupcakes would work perfectly.

I think you could go either way. If you package them individually, you can place them near the exit so people take them like they're favors, which would make the packaging seem less wasteful. If you want people to eat them while they're at the wedding, having them passed like hors d'ouevres makes more sense to me.

If you are having tables for people to put their drinks at and such, could the cupcakes be placed at the individual seats?

Hopefully they'll still allow the single cake display since it won't be something your guests are touching or serving! But who knows, it could be a measure to keep you both safe from people admiring the cake and breathing on it. 🤷

I love your idea for individually boxing the cupcakes - it keeps things safe, sterile, and flexible!

I've seen some really cute packaging online, there are lots of ways to jazz it up:

Lynnie, I loooove those boxes. How cute!

Thanks everyone else for the replies. I actually just spoke with my venue at greater length last night and they told me that I can't do boxes either. They literally said that I cannot put anything out that a guest might pick up ad put back down even if the food inside is protected. I was thinking "what about grocery stores?!?" but I guess rules are rules and at least I get to have my wedding! Also found out no displaying a cake or our cupcakes in anyway unless they are behind plexiglass. Passed hors d'oeuvres style it is I suppose.

Is anyone else running into this???
