Cabernet/wine bridesmaids dresses frustration

Alyssa, on May 5, 2019 at 2:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27
I am getting married in October and really wanted a DEEP Burgundy color for my bridesmaids dresses. Every site I have been on to order dresses, they look different in brighter or darker settings obviously (I have been looking at their "real wedding" photos vs studio lighting. I really don't want a bright red or fuchsia color. Anyone else having these dress dilemmas? I almost want to change my color completely, but the only other color I like is mauve and I don't feel it is fitting for October Smiley sad Help!

I did, I am between Azazie or Birdy Grey, I believe Birdy Grey's Cabernet is a touch darker, but they both show "real wedding" photos where the dresses look really purple/fuchsia in brighter lighting. Am I being too picky?? haha

Try looking for "eggplant" color dresses. My daughter's MOH is wearing eggplant and it comes across as super deep burgundy

Here is a photo in natural light of the swatches that I ordered from Azazie. Their Cabernet is the truest burgundy I’ve been able to find.

These are both highly edited and since they’re different photographers with different styles, the colors are different. Neither of them are the true color. The first is edited much deeper and the second is much lighter.

Hmm.. I totally see why you're so confused! The bottom one almost looks more mulberry as posted above 🤔

Thanks for sharing, thats super helpful! The photos I posted are from Birdy Grey's site, however Azazie also has similar photos, but like you said they are likely edited.

Also keep in mind the color can vary slightly depending on the fabric. If you want everyone in the same color but are letting them choose their own style, I would recommend designating a fabric as well.

If you haven't yet, I'd encourage you to order the swatches for all the possible shades you're considering. Daughter went with Azazie (and was incredibly happy), but you have to see the swatches (which also vary depending on which fabric you choose). Also, it's the nature of color for it to look different in different lighting conditions, so that's just something you'll have to accept regardless of which color or manufacturer you go with. (If you've ever chosen paint for a room, you've likely seen this same thing happen -- in the bright light of morning it looks completely different on the wall than it does in the evening.) Daughter choose Azazie's dark green, and it was perfect and beautiful, but it looked like somewhat different shades depending on what kind of lighting there was at the time. All five girls' dresses matched each other and looked the same color in the same lighting, but in the full sun of the ceremony they looked lighter and brighter than they did in the dim, artificial light at the evening reception. Your swatches will give you a much better idea. Good luck!

I wanted a deep burgundy as well.. The wine at David’s Bridal was to “purplish” for what I was going for. I ordered azazie swatches and their burgundy was too light as well. I went to a local bridal shop and looked at their swatches but in natural light as I am getting married outdoors. I found Mori Lee brand that has a deep burgundy that I absolutely loved! It’s called Bordeaux. That’s what I ended up with! And it matched my faux burgundy roses I found!

They are roughly around $150 I do believe.. of course plus tax. They didn’t mind paying that at all.

Don't just look at photos on screen. The colors look very different in person. Order some of their fabric swatches. If you have it narrowed down to two colors, get those two colors in a fabric swatch. It only costs a couple of dollars, but it will allow you to see the color/fabric in real life, which can make all the difference.

Davids bridal has a color "wine" which is a dark burgundy. I personally will be using that color

Try Azazie! Their Cabernet looks true to color, my bridesmaids got dresses from here (in a different color) and they all love them https://m.azazie.com/all/bridesmaid-dresses
